As usual, with a cliffhanger finish, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Phil Schiller, the company’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, presented the successor to the Apple iPad, the new Apple iPad Air.
In a quote heard around the blogsphere, Gizmodo proclaimed “Forget the specs, it blows everything away.” Indeed, with nearly the same internal workings as the Apple iPhone 5S, including a A7 64-bit processor and a M7 motion sensor chip, the iPad Air is about 8 times faster in performance, 72 times faster in graphic processing. With a thickness of 7.5 mm, down from 9.4 mm, and only 1 pound in weight, from the original 1.4 pounds, the iPad Air lives up to its name as the lightest tablet device out in the market today.
Aside from its dimensions and processors, Apple iPad Air boasts a 9.7-inch LED-backlit Retina Display, a 5-megapixel iSight camera capable of 1080p HD video recording, a new FaceTime HD camera with larger pixel, dual microphones, and more… There is also a new Wi-Fi connectivity as well, twice as fast with dual channel, MIMO, and 802.11a/b/g/n spectrums. With a 10-hour battery life, the new Apple iPad Air comes in Silver and White, Space Gray, and all-Black. It replaces the current iPad range with a retail price of $499 USD for the 16GB unit, Wi-Fi and Cellular version starts at $629 USD. Prices then climb in an increment of $100 with 32GB for $599 USD, 64GB for $699, and 128GB for $799. The same goes for the Wi-Fi and Cellular version, with 32GB for $729, 64GB for $829, and finally 128GB for $929.
