If you only had the chance to drive in one race series, a strong bet would be that you would chose the Land Rover Defender Rally Series, even above the famed Ferrari Challenge and Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. A one-make only championship that includes their indestructible and formidable off-road terrain vehicle as the star player, Land Rover is hoping that the new seven race challenge will help them find and train up-and-coming drivers for their Dakar Rally entry. Oh, and it will be a lot of fun to see these beasts teetering on the edge as they fly around corners. Produced with the help of their performance partner Bowler, the series will field a modified Defender 90 Hard Top with a standard 2.2-liter diesel engine upgraded to 170-hp, controlled with a six-speed manual trans. A MSA-approved roll cage and fire extinguisher system has also be installed, along with Kumho tires. The cost to own one is just over $80,000 USD while entry into the race series will cost you between $16,000 and $22,500 USD, with the first race on March 2 in Wales. Now let’s just hope some leaked videos start circulated with some highlights from this race series.
