Dodge puts the pedal to the metal and revs up plenty of nostalgia with their latest SEMA Show star, the 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker. The Challenger has always been on the heavier end of the muscle car spectrum, not able to be as nimble or as athletic as the Camaro or Mustang, but there are certainly plenty of old-school fans who agree that when it comes to cars like this, bigger is definitely better. Capitalizing on the huge momentum that comes with 2013 being Dodge’s best sales year ever, the brand is now introducing the new R/T Shaker to the mix. It’s engine is the same – a Hemi V-8 – and there isn’t that much different from the regular R/T. Oh, except for that big ol’ hole cut into the hood for the “shaker” air scoop. There are a few other new goodies, like a Mopar cold-air intake, the optional Super Track Pak (high-performance steering gear, brake lines, shocks, and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires), a rear spoiler, and five-spoke 20-inch wheels, as well as a retro cursive “Challenger” script for the grille. The inside rounds out the OG look, with Shaker logos on the seatbacks and a crisp interior to go with the Uconnect system. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a five-speed auto is optional. The R/T Shaker goes on sale early next year beginning at $37,990.
