In GQ‘s Men of the Year issue — on newsstands now — Pharrell Williams is christened “Hitmaker of the Year.” It’s a sound choice, as the chart topping collaborator was responsible for two different songs that had equal claim to song of the summer: namely, Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” “Both songs are for people who need a break,” says Pharrell. “There’s a lot of fucked-up travesty in the world. Sometimes you just need a Hallmark card. Sometimes you just need to shake your ass.” You’ll continue to hear his influence whether you’re listening to Miley Cyrus or Pusha T — just one indication of Pharrell’s reach.
