The Wind Rises Hayao Miyazakis Final Film | Official Trailer

The official trailer for The Wind Rises, said to be the final bow from the 72-year-old filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, has surfaced online. The auteur behind the classic films Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, Miyazaki has crafted a biopic that tells the story of real-life Japanese engineer Jiro Horikoshi, the man responsible for the creation of the Zero fighter plane used during WWII. Like Miyazaki’s previous efforts, The Wind Rises features sweeping rural vistas viewed through a gorgeously delicate color palette, but its examination of a turbulent period in Japanese history presents a marked departure from the director’s usual themes of myth and magical realism. Check out the trailer below, and look for The Wind Rises to hit theaters starting February 21st, 2014.
