Billed as the easiest and most beautiful way to create on the iPad, Paper earned App of the Year honors for 2012. Now, FiftyThree follows up on Paper with the aptly named Pencil, a bluetooth stylus that pairs with the Paper app for iOS to enable users to write and draw more naturally. The instrument's design resembles a traditional carpenter's pencil, complete with broad, flat sides and a tapered point, all encased in an exterior shell made of real walnut sourced from Wisconsin. (It's also available in a graphite-inspired metal version.) Following the "Kiss to Pair" on-screen pairing process, Pencil recognizes both palm rejection as well as finger gestures the user actually wants to implement, like pinching to zoom the image or blending strokes for a pastel or charcoal effect. Flip Pencil around and you can use the "eraser" for easy backtracking. Check out an introductory video below, and purchase Pencil now directly from FiftyThree.
