Translated into Spanish, German, Russian, and sold in 42 countries worldwide, Sneaker Freaker helped to facilitate a global perspective on the culture of sneakers, be it in designing them, collecting them, or wearing them. While the printed matter had several collaborative designs over the years, it never collaborated with adidas, till now. It all started back in later 2012, when both parties met in Berlin for lunch. It was then and there that that all involved created the initial framework for the Sneaker Freaker x adidas Consortium Torsion Integral S. Roughly based on the concept of “Upover-Downunder” as in Germany in the northern hemisphere and Australia, where Sneaker Freaker is base, in the southern hemisphere, the Sneaker Freaker x adidas Consortium Torsion Integral S comes in two color schemes. The first, with its color combination of Bliss, Tech Beige, and Iron, bear a resemblance to some of the original adidas Torsion designs. The other, in Black, White Vapour, and Light Ocean (or Mint) are from Woody himself. When asked, he replied “I love mint, it’s fresh and timeless. And it looks good with just about anything!” About the designing process, he added “Our starting point was a black midsole which can be a brutal foundation, so we splattered it with a fine mist of wintery white speckle so crisp, it’s criminal. From there it was a simple process of adding layer-upon-layer of luscious mint and cool grey, with a sly hit of Sneaker Freaker red in the Torsion bar. It’s a deceptively simple and supremely balanced combination.”
One of the last “big drop” for 2013, the Sneaker Freaker x adidas Consortium Torsion Integral S will be available this coming Saturday, December 21. And as a way to thank their loyal customers, Berlin’s Overkill boutique will be hosting a breakfast celebration during its launch as well.
