Perhaps looking ahead to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, partners Carol Lim and Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony focused on two particular sports as the design themes for their upcoming Opening Ceremony x adidas Originals – Spring/Summer 2014 Collection. One of the theme will be the reinterpretation on Americans’ love affair with baseball while the other explores the martial art form of tae kwon do, another sport with deep roots in national identity. To feature various references to both sports such as “stitching” found on baseball gloves and association patches on tae kwon do uniforms, the collection offers various apparel, accessories, and footwear for both men and women. Expect the baseball themed products to arrive at select adidas Originals stores and Opening Ceremony retail locations later this month, follow by tae kwon do-centric designs to be available in March.
