Presented by creative troupe STD, VANS Classic & City event series made its way to Shanghai last week after making stops at Chengdu and Guangzhou. With performances by J Fever and Kafe Hu to kick-off the festivities, over 1000 guests made their way through the venue space, where a carnival-like scene greeted them. Local artists Hurricane Harry, Supersonic, and Ms. Supersonic customized a series of over-sized VANS Sk8-Hi as sculptural art while Hong Kong art collective Start From Zero stenciled designs onto the regular VANS Core Classics. Not far from them, London-based artists Lovenskate reproduced VANS in paper form with Shanghai-based screen printers Idle Beats screen-printed original prints on totes and hoodies. But for the most part, all eyes were in the direction of the stage, where Audio VJ/DJ Sampology, Canadian indie rock band Born Ruffians, London-based dance rock artist Ebony Bones, and STD’s headman R3 bellowed out tunes in a non-stop fashion, making this VANS Classic & City event one to remember.
