VW New Beetle Dune Concept

VW designers must have had a lot of fun with this one: a new, rugged Beetle Dune Concept. And now, ahead of their plans to exhibit the reinvention of the American classic at the Detroit auto show next week, VW is releasing additional photos and a sketch of their original design. The concept is inspired by the unique creations that Bug fans dreamed up themselves back in the 1960’s, often using salvaged materials and a lot of modified parts to create their own take on the popular car, often for off-road use. Now, it looks as though VW is toying with the idea of making perhaps the most sporty concept they have ever made to production, complete with a higher wheel clearance, a 210-hp turbocharged TSI engine and a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission as well as – at least for the drawing – the ability to throw a roof rack of skis on top. We’ll have to wait to see what the reception is in the VW community and in the car world in general to see what the future has in store, but, either way, look for this to debut on Monday.
