As creative director of Bottega Veneta since 2001, German designer Tomas Maier has shepherded the Italian luxury label to increasingly strong collections in the intervening years. For the brand’s Fall/winter 2014 menswear collection, just unveiled during Milan Fashion Week, Maier took on a decidedly sportier aesthetic for his casual looks, highlighted by pants that tapered down to a ribbed cuff — reflecting the same sporty effect seen in the hems of the sweaters or blousons worn up top. The degree of difficulty was accentuated with the frequent use of green, showcased in a variety of shades ranging from kelly green to lime. Those unorthodox shades were used alongside more traditional menswear elements, including glen plaid checks and soft leathers, easing the transition into uncharted territories.
