Kris Van Assche clearly had an agenda to free up the men’s suit for his Dior Homme Fall/Winter 2014 collection, applying a series of Dior graphics — including archive couture rose motifs and polka-dotted pinstripes — onto the Savile Row tailored jackets and pants. He also combined the suits with various streetwear staples, first with denim shirts, vests, jackets and jeans, and then later with military-inspired parkas and MA-1 jackets. Shearling lined leather jackets and and toggle coats also showed up on the runway, paired well with slim-fitting suits in three- or four-button variations. It was a rebirth of traditionally tailored menswear, occasioned by a newfound level of versatility.
