In anticipation of the 2014 NBA All-Star Game, Nike Basketball and LeBron James pay tribute to host city New Orleans with the NOLA Gumbo League Collection. The gumbo moniker is a reflection of the city itself, made up of a distinctively eclectic mix of unique characters, music, cuisine and art. Nike takes inspiration from those varied flavors to cook up signature basketball shoes that combine technical innovation, bold aesthetics and traditional New Orleans traditions. All three are seen in the Nike LeBron 11 “Gator King,” inspired by the indigenous alligator, the king of the bayou, and a symbol of protection in New Orleans culture. The shoe is done up in regal deep purples, greens and gold, borrowed from the king of carnival celebrations known as Rex, with hand-drawn patterns that can be seen when the Hyperposite bucket of the shoe glows in the dark. Packaged in a special edition box with a commemorative tarot card, the Nike LeBron 11 “Gator King” launches through select Nike Basketball retailers and online starting February 14th.
