VANS “Sidestripe Origins” | Video

Originally called the Jazz Stripe, the Vans Sidestripe was created by the brand’s founder, Paul Van Doren, back in the mid 1970s. The origins of the instantly recognizable trademark is told by Steven Van Doren (current VP of Events and Promotions at Vans and the son of Paul) in the following video primer, set in Vans’ Cypress, California, headquarters. As Steve tells it, the curved signature stripe was the result of one of Paul’s doodles, and first appeared on the Old Skool, which was originally called the Style 36.
