While each of the Nike KD 6 editions help to tell Kevin Durant‘s life story from his beginnings in a working class family in Seat Pleasant, Maryland to now an NBA superstar, none of the designs resonated more to Durant than the “Aunt Pearl” design. A tribute to his late Aunt Pearl, who helped to mold the introverted Durant into the young man he is today, the KD 6 “Aunt Pearl” Collection by Nike Basketball features a pair of KD 6’s adorned with an all-over pink floral print, a pattern found on a robe his Aunt Pearl often wore. A subtle pearlized overlay and blue highlights further add a distinctive look to the collection, which also includes a matching t-shirt and cap.
“I made a promise to myself to always honor my Aunt Pearl for the example she set, and the encouragement she gave me to follow my dreams,” said Durant.
Proceeds from the collection’s sale will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, created in the memory of North Carolina State University head women’s basketball Coach Kay Yow. Since its creation in 2007, the fund has already granted several major research, presentation, and awareness programs, including $100,000 to the Tulane Cancer Center. It is the hope of Kevin Durant and Nike to contribute more in the near future.
The new Nike KD 6 “Aunt Pearl” Collection will be available on Thursday, February 27, at Nike.com and select Nike retailers worldwide.
