Samsung Introduces Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo Smartwatches

This week at the Mobile World Congress trade shown in Barcelona, Spain, Samsung unveiled the updated Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatch, both of which will make use of Samsung’s homegrown Tizen software rather than Google Android. Compared to the first Samsung Gear, the Gear 2 maintains the same exterior design for the most part, but gets a power boost courtesy of a 1GHz dual-core processor versus the single-core 800MHz chip of the outgoing model. The watch will be compatible with “dozens” of Samsung smartphones and tablets at launch, and features a standalone music player and heart rate monitor. The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are essentially the same, with the latter stripped of the camera and featuring a lighter weight. Both have improved battery life rated at three days of use, and interchangeable rubber writstbands in four different colors for each model. Stay tuned for pricing and release details.
