Designed and crafted to take a beating on the basketball court, skaters out in the West Coast soon found the benefits of Air Jordan 1 and its air cushioned sole, ankle support cuff, durable leather upper and sticky rubber outsole. Not long after Air Jordan 1’s introduction in 1985, skaters adopted it for their needs, as famously displayed by http://lancemountain.com” target=”_blank”>Lance Mountain in his 1987 skate videos. Now, close to 30 years later, Nike is making this “partnership” official with the Nike SB x Air Jordan 1.
With help from artist Craig Stecyk (aka C. R. Stecyk III), who was there to document the birth of skateboard culture during the 1970s, http://nikeskateboarding.com” target=”_blank”>Nike Skateboarding inscribed “AJ One SB” in Stecyk’s original typeface along heel panel. In addition, http://nike.com” target=”_blank”>Nike and http://jumpman23.com” target=”_blank”>Jordan Brand designers also took cues from Stecyk’s Northwest Passage art installations with the metallic bronze casting and spray application on the Nike SB x Air Jordan 1’s upper.
While nostalgic in appearance, the Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 features some of the foremost design elements, including a lightweight construct, improved tread patterns and icy translucent outsole. The Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 will be available, in limited quantities, through http://nikestore.com” target=”_blank”>nike.com online, Nike SB and Jordan Brand retailers worldwide starting on Saturday, March 15th.
