It all started with leather, canvas and suede, gradually technical materials like mesh became the go-to components in making the Nike Air Max line of footwear. Then, material science took a big leap during the last ten years with Nike’s introduction of Hyperfuse, Tape, Vac-Tec and most recently Engineered Mesh. As the Air Max design approaches its 30th year, Nike designers pushed up their standards once again to create the most breathable creations aptly called the Nike Air Max Breathe Collection. Stripped to just the bare essentials, designers then rebuilt the three most notable Air Max models – the Air Max Light, the Air Max 1 and the Air Max 90, with layers of mesh and moisture-wicking lining. Supplement with elastic lacing, soft heel counter and other innovations, the Nike Air Max Breathe Collection is just a precursor for what’s to come in footwear design and development from Nike.
