In the rarefied world of classic cars, only a few have withstood not just the test of time but the finicky nature of consumer behavior. All the more reason for Ford to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Ford Mustang this year. Since the model made its debut during the 1964 New York World’s Fair, Ford decided to kick off the year-long celebration at this year’s New York International Auto Show with a special 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition.
A nod to the year it was first introduced, Ford will only produce 1,964 of these rare ponies. In another reference to the 1964 model, the 50th Anniversary Edition will be available in either Kona Blue or Wimbledon White seen here. Based on the 2015 Ford Mustang GT fastback model with its 5-liter V8 engine capable of 420 horsepower, this Pony Car can deliver 390 lb.-ft. of torque to its four Pirelli P-Zero tires at a drop of a dime. Along with the customized 19-inch alloy wheels, it includes a serialized plate, cashmere-stitched leather appointments along the interior, loop-carpet floor mats and other features that are exclusive to the 50th Anniversary Edition. In fact, since the vehicle is fully loaded with options already, potential buyers only have two choices to make – the color and whether to go with manual or automatic transmission. No price is set at this time though the 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will be available for purchase in Fall 2014.
