In spectacular fashion, Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic this past Sunday and claimed his ninth French Open title. The feat also propelled Nadal’s stature as one of tennis’ greatest since no player ever won the same Grand Slam tournament nine times, five of those consecutively. To honor the Nadal’s accomplishments and his reign of the clay court, sponsor Nike Tennis commissioned a life-size sculpture made of the same red tennis-court clay. Accompanied by a plaque that reads: Legends are made from different stuff, sculptors actually secured the same clay from French Open’s courts at Roland Garros as a way to recreate the historical moment. The life-size sculpture of Rafael Nadal is currently on view at the Cinquième Set boutique in Paris.
