Together with Nike Basketball designer Leo Chang dand broadcast legend Ahmad Rashad, Kevin Durant unveiled his new signature shoe, the Nike KD 7, moments ago at a special event in Newseum of Washington D.C. Refined to fit Durant’s ever evolving style of play on the basketball court, Chang loaded the KD 7 with some of the best technologies from Nike’s armory of technical arsenals. There is the Nike Flywire for dynamic fit and ultimate responsiveness, the seamless mesh forefoot for lightweight protection, in addition to the cushioning support from the encapsulated Nike Zoom (forefoot) and Nike Zoom Air Bag (heel). In addition to the notable return of the midfoot strap, the Nike KD 7 also incorporates the Hyperposite technology, a first for the KD signature line. An evolved technology from the original Nike Air Foamposite One in 1997, it was also Durant’s favorite while growing up in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area.
“It’s been a great journey with Nike and I’m confident giving Leo specific feedback on what I’m looking for in a shoe,” said Durant. “For the KD7, I really wanted a shoe that allowed me to move quickly, while having great support and stability. I also wanted to bring back the strap.”
The new Nike KD 7 will be available in five different colorways, each a narrative to Durant’s life from his interest in meteorology as child, his boundless love for friends and family, and his upcoming participation in Team USA for 2014 FIBA World Cup. The collection will see the “July 4th” edition launching first tomorrow, June 26th, follow by the new “35,000 Degrees” edition on Saturday, July 12th. Both will be available at NikeStore.com, Nike and Nike Basketball retailers worldwide.
