Viewers at the Moncler Gamme Bleu Spring 2015 menswear show in Milan were tipped off early with respect to the theme of the collection. A boxing ring wrapped in Browne’s signature tricolored stripes indicated a pugilistic motif, featuring a collection that blended Thom Browne’s signature tailored looks with the flowing robes and knee-length iridescent shorts from the world of boxing. As expected, there were the obligatory gentleman’s fabrics that are Browne’s stock in trade — striped seersucker, summer tweeds and glen plaids — embellished with gym-inspired details: the lace closure from boxing gloves held together shirts and trousers, and the thick waistbands from boxing shorts were used on outerwear to create a tailored waist. A nice finishing touch found Browne replacing the fighters’ black eyes with tricolored ones.
