With his Spring/Summer 2015 collection, presented at Paris Fashion Week, Junya Watanabe officially entered his blue period. Japanese designers have always had a fascination with indigo, and Junya offered a master class in the distinctive hue, using it on traditional Japanese boro patchwork, as well as pinstripes, checks and florals. Those design elements were seen on suits, jeans jackets and cardigans, built with Japanese homespun details to complement the show’s trappings — including the evocative painted backdrop — and the sumo-inspired lacquered hair on the models.
