OMEGA has unveiled the Speedmaster Mark II “Rio 2016,” paying tribute to the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games and based on the 1969 model of the original OMEGA Speedmaster Mark II. The piece features a polished and brushed stainless steel barrel-shaped case with a polished crown and pushers. Beneath a flat scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is a matte black dial, featuring a 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock and a small second sub-dial at 9 o’clock. The sub-dials are reminiscent of the Olympic rings, adorned with a bronze ring, 18K yellow gold ring and 925 silver ring, respectively. A transparent tachymeter scale on the sapphire crystal is illuminated from an aluminium ring filled with Super-LumiNova, which also coats the white and black hour and minute hands, chronograph seconds hand and hour markers. Finally, the screw-in caseback is stamped with the logo of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Limited to 2,016 units, each piece is individually numbered and retails for $6,500.
