Interview with Mark Graham of ilovedust
ilovedust is a design collective working in stylized solutions for products and brands of all sizes. They recently worked with the globally recognized Jordan Brand on a special release of the iconic Air Jordan I basketball sneaker. The AJ I is largely considered to be among the most sought after, revolutionary consumer products of the 20th century so it is only fitting that classic American jean maker Levi’s would put its spin on the footwear icon. Lending gold rivets and denim tailoring to Jordan’s trailblazing silhouette, LEVIS drapes the AJ I in timeless cool, adding the attractive Air Jordan III “elephant print” design cue to further endear the shoe to sneaker heads everywhere. Freshness took advantage of the rarely provided interview opportunity afforded by ilovedust and the AJ I x Levi’s experience has been made even richer as a result.

DIESEL WALL, a competition dedicated to young artists and designers, to offer them the opportunity to showcase their works on an extraordinary scale: monumental, freestanding vertical walls in the centres of world’s most important cities.
In 2008, this art project will delve into new territories: Manchester (UK), Barcelona (Spain), New York (USA), Zurich (Switzerland) all are now hosting new Diesel Walls, continuing the tradition started in 2004.
From March 3rd until May 12th 2008 anyone from any country in the world can apply online www.dieselwall.com and submit his/her designs for the chance to feature in this new edition of the project and conquer a Wall! The artists will have total freedom in sending concepts: art is above all a means of unconstrained self-expression.
From mid-April to June 2008 local juries will get together in order to select the Diesel Wall winners for each city and the winner will be announced June 10th, 2008. The jury members for this year will include among others Bigas Luna, Peter Saville, Terry Jones, and Wilbert Das, Diesel’s Creative Director, joining each judging panel in all four different countries. From May to July 2008, depending on each city’s Diesel Wall timeline, winners will be announced both through the website and local events to then proceed with the setting-up of the winning installations on each Wall.

Espeis Archetype Gallery Presents: WK Interact – The Trail
Friday evening marked the start of WK’s latest exhibition, currently on display at Espeis Archetype Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Friends, families, and fans of WK all stopped by to see this elaborate installation, including the centerpiece titled “The Trail” – a full mock-up of an imaginary motorcycle crash which started off with painted skid marks outside of the gallery, an actual crashed motorcycle, and a broken mannequin (WK’s alter ego) equipped with his actual own gears. The impact of the crash set everything in motion and urged the audience, in this case eyewitness, to follow the progression of that initial event deep within the exhibition. It is certainly an exhibition you do not want to miss.

Espeis Archetype Gallery Presents: WK Interact – The Trail
In New York City, a canvas WK has made his own for over 15 years, ‘The Trail’ is an unswerving invitation to join this impacted state of crash. With a motor accident and a broken figure, the resulting story begins.
Executed as invasive gifts to the cities he dwells in, WK Interact’s cumulative body of work ranges from large scale tracings of movement visible to all from the street, to detailed contraptions and tools illustrating a vision of power- frozen and hauntingly rendered immobile.
WK is a method of elegant provocation, marked by both the charm and the gracelessness of the New York City landscape. ‘The Trail’, is the shadow of WK, set for you to follow.

To celebrate the launch of the Nike SB Brazil Custom Series 02, Freshness is displaying the works of Luis Felipe Volpi, Caue Rodrigues, Rafel Chavez, and Rimon Guimaraes for this month’s banner. Each artist worked in conjunction with a skater to create 3 giant murals, an interpretation of their ideal “dream spots” to skate. Each of the giant murals were then cut to create unique sockliners for each of the 480 pairs of the Dunk High SB.

The black and white version of KAWS ZOOTH by Neighborhood and OriginalFake will be available on KAWSONE.com today at noon 12pm EST. Be sure not to miss out.

August Banner designed by: Something Relevant
Back in 2005 when I created the work I was influenced by Scott Hanson and the ilovedust guys. At the time they were beginning to move away from the hard clean lines of vector and into a more painterly style using textures and multiple layers. I created my banners experimenting with brushes and paint dabs in Photoshop using photographic elements and paintings creating scenes fresh in my mind from a recent road trip across America and the vibrant vibe of Venice beach.
