The latest release from Japanese apparel label APPLEBUM is the Danchi Edition New Era Cap. Working closely with New Era, the cap is in reference to “Danchi”, the equivalent of Japanese housing projects built throughout the 1960′s. This fitted cap has been printed with a picturesque collage of a Tokyo Danchi at night, part of of the original city scape designs has released this season. Embroidered along the front and back in white are logo and initials AB. To fight off the cool winter nights, the interior is lined with a waffle thermal lining. APPLEBUM x Stussy   World Tribe (WT) Kid T Shirt

APPLEBUM has been on a tear since the launch of its wide imitated “shoe box” pattern a few seasons back.  It is no different this Fall and Holiday season as the Japanese label partnered with Stussy Japan in designing the  WT (World Tour) Kid T-Shirt.  Scheduled to launch tomorrow, November 7th, the t-shirt  features ’s signature caricature wearing a t-shirt. The mini-collection includes a black colorway that is exclusive to retailers in Japan, and APPLEBUM online store.  In addition a white edition (center) that will be available exclusively at Stussy Harajuku Chapter and a white “lyric” edition (right), with a brief quote “Bonita APPLEBUM Ya Gotta Put Me On”, which will be available at all  Stussy Chapter stores across Japan.

Freshness Feature: One On One   A Conversation With Carmelo Anthony

After repeatedly breaking opponents down and the NBA’s trans-continental marketing blitz during the last 5 years or so, Carmelo Anthony is now a household name to hoop fans in all corners of the globe. He has dominated every level of competition he’s faced, and this season he seems poised for the next plateau—winning an NBA championship. Off the court, ‘Melo keeps busy as well, as he founded a record label and co-produced the film Tyson.  Along with his media endeavors, Anthony has also enjoys a great relationship with , as he takes part in the design of his signature Melo sneakers. His first release, the Melo 1.5, grafted iconic design elements of the Air Jordan I (1) and II (2) with some suggestions of his own. For the M6, Carmelo Anthony’s latest signature model, the aesthetic is farther away from easily recognizable Air Jordan staples from yesteryear.

To coincide with the release of his latest signature model—the M6, Freshness caught up with Anthony to discuss his accomplishments on and off the court, his goals, his style, and even his relationship with Jordan himself.

Freshness Feature: The Market Makers   A Conversation with Fraser Cooke + Hiroshi Fujiwara

Come every September issues, descriptive terms like “influencer” or “trend setter” dotted the pages of fashion magazines, men or women able to alter course of the market at a whim.  In spite of their far reaching capacity, however. They still have to operate within the confine of the marketplace and be in tune to the ever changing trends.  Then there are the “Market Makers”, who operate under completely different sets of rules, where products and designs initiate the marketplace to follow, or just simply establish a new one.

2 men who undoubtedly are in this latter category are Fraser Cooke of Nike Global Brand Energy and Hiroshi Fujiwara, head of fragment design and among many others.  We caught up with both gentlemen in Taiwan recently for a candid conversation in regard to Nike Global Brand Energy, SoHo Project in Tokyo Bay, and the positive angle to the current economic down turn.

29+1 Project   Kinnikuman x Caol Uno (宇野薰) (UCS)

As the celabration continues from last year, Kinnikuman (known as M.U.S.C.L.E. in U.S.), an iconic Japanese pro-wrestling manga & anime that influenced many youths back then who are now in their late 20′s & 30′s, celebrates its 30th anniversary year . Aside from its manga and anime, collectable eraser molded figurine called “Kin-keshi” was a huge trend back then selling approximate 1.8 billion as must have collectable figurine or else be left out.

mita sneakers x FRAT x New Balance MT576S Bamboo Rake Edition

21 years ago, New Balance set the standards for trail running footwear with its M576 sneaker. Since then, it has gone through several renditions, including the exalted “Made in U.S.A.” & “Made in England” collections, as well as the exclusive “Japan Project”.  It was from the latter that M576 went through one of its many metamorphosis.  The result was MT576, a model exclusively for Tokyo’s retailer .

Roc Star China 3000 jacket

A relatively new name in the streetwear scene domestically, Tokyo’s Roc Star has been chugging along since 2001 as a brand in the Hectic family. For their current spring collection, brand director DJ Daruma of dance dj crew Dexpistols has created a collection titled “New Wave Techno & Kung-Fu”. In the collection, Daruma attempts to mesh “Flashy” with “Minimal,” saying- “the words have completely different meanings, but i am fascinated with [creating] something that consists of the two.” Take the China 3000 jacket; a minimal color palette with a flashy construction melding traditional chinese garb with a retro blouson jacket. Royksopp   Happy Up Here Video

Steadily releasing mellow dancefloor pop, the duo Royksopp have struck quite a chord with one Mr. West, as he gives them regular “big-ups” on his site. You might know the Norwegian duo from their previous hits “Eple” and “Remind Me”. This go round, on their new single, “Happy Up Here”, Royksopp create a spaced out battle, as Space Invaders do that laser thing that they do on the city at night.
