Liquor, Woman & Tears, also known as LWT, is one of the most talked-about select shop in Tokyo since its opening last September. Created by retailer UNITED ARROWS, the store create an unique mix of urban wear and high-end style. The store’s motto is simply “There is no difference when wearing leather shoes and wearing sneakers”.
For the month of September, LWT is set to release a few unique items, including a pair of limited edition boots created by Timberland and Japanese high-end retailer DressCamp. Based on Timberland’s classic 6-inch boot, the upper is completely transformed, in its place is bright leather in iridescent silver. LWT also devised a few collaborations of its own, one with ATO, another high-end apparel label in Japan, and created a limited edition Air Jordan inspired sneaker. The other is also a limited edition sneaker inspired by the Hip-Hop culture, created in conjunction with SPX. Photos by Aki.

Swedish online shop, sneakersnstuff (a.k.a. SNS), along with PUMA, created a special series by infusing the Swedish culture into a pair of PUMA Clyde. Simply called “The List”, the sneaker incorporated series of tribal graphics from the indigenous group called Sámi, original inhabitants of the Scandinavia:n region and parts of Russia. Another feature is the usage of authentic reindeer leather, a major part of the Sami tradition, as the whole upper. The sneaker was released in 20 countries worldwide, with a limit of 606 pairs. This included the 22 pairs available at mita Sneakers, the only store to carry it in Japan. 5% of each sales will go to charitable foundation in support Sámi youth culture. Photos by AKI.

Our friends at Japanese apparel label whiz limited just released their 2nd collaboration with New Balance, a limited edition version P580 model. Along with the P680 model, these were the very first basketball sneakers created by New Balance. Unlike other basketball sneakers, New Balance decided to forgo cow hide. Instead, high quality goat skins were used for a softer fit. In 1980′s, the P series (P means Pride) was known to be worn by the Los Angeles Lakers’ legendary forward James Worthy.
Because of this collaboration, both labels were able to push into unfamiliar realms. New Balance, whose mainstay in most collabs were running sneakers, made a decision to utilized its less known basketball footwear. In turn, whiz limited applied its signature plaid pattern for 2007, on portions of the upper, the interior lining, and the laces, something that is quite rare for the label. whiz limited creative director, Hiroaki Shitano explained “After visiting the NB exhibiton, the P580 model just caught my eye. Even before the start of the project, I already had it in my mind that P580 will be my choice for this collaboration.” says Hiroaki.
The special edition will only be available at 2 retail locations: whiz unlimited flagship store Lump in Harajuku part of Tokyo. The other is mita Sneakers. It retails for JP¥ 14,490 (~US$ 130). Photo by Debre.
NOTE: whiz x NB M574 photo on mita Sneakers website interview is the actual prototype and will not be on sale

August 18th marked the release of another collaboration between visvim and COMME des GARÇONS – a limited edition Kiefer. This new Kiefer is an updated version of visvim’s in-line model. The heel portion is inverted, for a more simplify look. The entire uppers used elk skin. The toe cap is quite unique too. While similar sneakers used toe cap made of rubber, visvim used authentic leather. This minor detailing really set the brand apart from others, not to mention the comfort like no others. 3 colorways are sold: black, white, & brown. Retail points are F.I.L., Dover Street Market Aoyama and Dover Street Market London. Photos by Aki.

Downtown L.A embraced running fever on Friday August 10th as Nike unveiled RE-RUN, a contemporary installation of old-school Nike images blended with photography, graphic design and works from the likes of up and coming contemporary artists including Scott Campbell, Tracy Nakayama, Andrew Jeffrey Wright, Kime Buzzelli, Steven Harrington, Jesse Spears, and Keith Scharwath. As guests indulged in free Nike give-aways (t-shirts, pins, stickers, poster art), DJ Free Simon set the scene with some classic tracks, and curator Aaron Rose spilled the beans on the art show’s inspirations and influences…
“Its probably been around six months since I started working on the ‘Re-Run’ project which was based on this 70’s book I have called ‘Build Your Own Living Structures.’ Apart from creating the installation, I guess working with the artists on concepts, doing the fake ‘70s playboy-style photographs and designing all of the graphics was the fun part. Plus I got to go into the Nike archives (which few people gain access to) where I pulled shoes, photos, etc to put in the show. Those people in the archives are great. They’ve been around the company since the beginning, so they know everyone and everything. They showed me so much good stuff. It was a rad history lesson for sure.”
The RE-RUN exhibit travels across America, making the next two stops in Portland, then Miami.
