The new 2011 Bentley Continental GT has been unveiled not too long ago, with an updated body and a more power 6.0L W12 unit. However, borrowing from an member of the Volkswagen Group family, Bentley has also let slip that it will be offering a new V8 engine option. Not just any V8 engine will be utilized, but a twin-turbocharged Audi engine capable of 550 horsepower. To increase fluidity and performance, Bentley is planning to pair the engine with Audi’s S Tronic dual-clutch transmission. However, the problem with adaption lies in that the underbody has a hole shaped for a ZF six-speed automatic transmission, the gearbox used for their traditional W12 unit.
