Converse by John Varvatos Spring 2009 Ad Campaign

This spring the Converse by John Varvatos campaign marks the “Get Chucked” debut of Sarah Ruba, top model and founding member of the electro-soul band New Look! Fashion photographer Keiron O’Connor was inspired by artistic camaraderie and energy, captures a mood of optimism and youthful irreverence, resulting in a series of images that incorporate an evolved design aesthetic reflecting the creative environment of an artist. Yard, the creative agency behind the campaign, collaborated with O’Connor, and to create this modern graphic execution. The images were shot in a downtown artists loft space for the company’s premium men’s and women’s apparel and footwear collections.

The Spring 2009 men’s and women’s collections continues with the rock ‘n roll edge offering a range of high-end vintage inspired knits, tops, graphic tees, dresses, sweaters, tailored jackets, denim, woven bottoms, leathers and outerwear pieces. The CVO Wingtip Slip and Loose Fit Slip shoes are new styles for footwear. The Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey Boot will be issued in a second installment this season in signature painted-canvas styles, while the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe will be offered in stand-out metallic silver high-top and slip versions. The collection will be available nationwide at specialty retailers, department stores and online at www.converse.com this month.

“This campaign is about characters and their personalities. Converse has always been about expressing yourself, and we have fully embraced that ideal here. Our latest ‘Get Chucked’ series goes to the heart of both brands,” said John Varvatos. “We’re inspired by art, music and collaboration, and this campaign directly reflects the idealism of the ‘downtown’ loft mood be it Manhattan, London or Tokyo.”

According to WWD, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen is launching a menswear collection under their label The Row. The Row’s women’s collection is already well established and takes inspiration from the fabrics and tailoring traditions of menswear so its not surprising for the expansion. The Olsens are committed to making the garments in America, Ashley says, “That’s our thing — an American brand made in America. When we looked in the men’s market, we couldn’t really find basics you could wear with designer — the same concept as our women’s. So we started the process with pants and blazers, because we knew it would take time to get that right.” Prices are just as hefty as their womenswear collection, “retail prices for the 35 men’s pieces range from $230 for a two-ply T-shirt to $3,200 for a cashmere overcoat. Patterns include herringbone and plaid, and the palette is all neutral. Tailored pieces feature soft construction. Trousers come in two fits, but both are relaxed. Sweaters are perhaps the most distinctive items, especially one style with a cowled shawl collar. ” More info on the release to come.

She was spotted wearing head to toe Nike- a sports bra top and a blue pair of Nike Zoom Sister One+ doing some crazy moves.
