One of the ideas behind (capsule) was to center it around the community, and part of that involved them creating the Neighborhood Network, in which some favorite neighborhood spots offer discounts in honor of men’s market week.
The Neighborhood Network starts simultaneously with the (capsule) NYC Show on Monday, January 19th to Tuesday, January 20th and includes: Remedy Diner, Dickson’s Hair Shop, Frank’s Chop Shop, mastihashop, Reed Space, Still Life, The Cast and Valley.

As we mentioned yesterday, to commence the release of the Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse Tribute 2009 Collection, the Louis Vuitton boutique at “SoHo’s Greene Street will be transformed into a Sprouse destination in time for the collection’s arrival. The company is wrapping the store in vinyl and spray painting neon graffiti all over the facade. The window display will feature a 6-foot neon light installation in Sprouse’s Rose motif. The store’s interior, enhanced with black brick wall facing, will also be sprayed with the neon graffiti. Vuitton will honor the late artist with three events this Thursday. The night will kick off with cocktails at the Vuitton boutique on Greene Street, with a simultaneous event at nearby Deitch Projects’ Wooster Street Gallery for the opening of the “Rock on Mars” Sprouse retrospective. Afterwards, Vuitton and Jacobs will host a bash at the Bowery Ballroom, featuring a performance by Sprouse’s friend Debbie Harry, followed by DJ Jus Ske. The venue is expected to have a Sprouse feel, with a special graffiti-and-neon decor.” Once again, the collection release this Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the SoHo boutique. via: Hypebeast / 12ozProphet
From Friday, January 9, 2009 to Saturday, February 28, 2009, Deitch Projects will be hosting Rock on Mars, a retrospective exhibition of the work of Stephen Sprouse which will transform Deitch Projects’s 18 Wooster Street gallery into a realization of Sprouse’s rock and roll futuristic vision. Photography: Hedi Slimane
Prada has tapped former Dior Homme designer Hedi Slimane to shoot their latest men’s spring 2009 ad campaign. According to WWD, “Slimane, who resumed his photography career following his exit from Dior last year, took black and white portraits of Louis and Claude Simonon, sons of Paul and Tricia Simonon, the bass player and manager of Punk band The Clash.” The Simonon brothers were photographed “in moments of reflection and introspection, it is a symbolic yet understated approach to desire in men’s wear; a new classicism with a rebel edge.” Stay tuned for more images to come…

The special website welovesprouse.com was initially suppose to go live on December 15th things got a bit delayed and finally yesterday it went live. Good things are worth the wait right? The colorful and fun website features a mix of interviews/videos with people who knew Sprouse, including Debbie Harry, Candy Pratts Price and Patricia Field. In the clips, they muse on their relationship with Sprouse, and his lasting influence on the fashion and art worlds. Take a moment to check out the Scrawl the Wall section and share your comments on Stephen Sprouse’s influence today, a special section on Sprouse’s New York, highlighting some of the artist’s favorite haunts in the city, a Retrospective Stephen Sprouse and Marc Jacobs section with their past collaboration dated back to 2001 and a preview of the highly anticipated 2009 Tribute Collection! Thanks to Deitch Projects, Louis Vuitton and Rizzoli for the amazing collaboration, the collection is slated to hit Louis Vuitton stores worldwide on January 9, 2009.

As if we don’t pay enough taxes, according to WWD “Gov. David A. Paterson on Tuesday proposed an additional 5 percent sales tax on luxury goods, such as jewelry and furs costing more than $20,000, as one of scores of tax and fee boosts intended to close a widening gap in New York’s budget. For those that love to spend big, this is bad news.
The reason for this hike is due to the recession and the collapse of revenues from Wall Street, “Paterson is seeking to eliminate the sales tax exemption on clothing and footwear priced less than $110, but he would replace it with two one-week exemption periods on clothing and footwear purchases of less than $500. Paterson’s $121.1 billion budget plan would impose higher taxes on everything from personal services such as beauty, barber, manicure/pedicure and massage to beer and wine.” No thanks!
