Soon, the fabric became synonymous with the Art Noveau movement. In a little under two weeks, the Cassette Playa Blazer will be launched at Nike Sportswear retailers worldwide. Nike Sportswear is preparing for the launh with an eye-catching installation in their flagship store at 21 Mercer St. in NYC. The first thing you can see form the street is that the lobby is lime green with an electric blue vertical stripe that draws your focus to a pillar of the same color, atop of which is the Blazer itself. The wall above features designs inspired by the “Urban Shamanism” theme. Mask-like and heavy on triangles and trippy colours, Carri Mundane clearly succeeded in conveying her muse. With its consecutive releases in 3 different locations along the eastern shore of U.S., the Black Friday Air Force 1 by DJ Clark Kent is by far the most talked about launch on sneaker forums and blog rolls in recent weeks. Composed of rich black pony hair along 2/3 of its vamp with a pearlized silver patent leather on the latter third, the sneaker gives off an appearance of a creature with silver mane in motion. A pre-treated patent leather wrap around along the mid-sole create an iridescent halo when light strikes at certain angle, further enhance the illusion of movement.
In a brief talk during the launch event last Friday, Clark Kent explained the 3 maxim he adhered to during the design process:
- As a student of consumerism, Kent knew that black colorway is by far the most popular among buyer, whether it be cars, electronics, or sneakers. It is also the most versatile, with ease of transition from informal to formal, leisure to work.
- Because of its prominence in American culture, instead of a sale event, Kent wanted to “liven” things up and make it more interesting for Black Friday shopping
- Perhaps the most important focus for Clark Kent during the Black Friday AF1 design process – to incorporate as much lux materials as he can to the design. To add as much value as he can so his fans walk away content about their purchases.
In the end, Clark Kent came away satisfy with the finished product. But he stressed, the final say on Black Friday’s success is not with him but his fans and fellow sneaker heads. Look forward to several projects he’s currently work on for 2009, including a pair for ladies’ only and a trio of limited editions for 2009 All-Star Game in February.

As temperature dropped below zero, folks huddled under jackets, hide in 24-hour diner nearby, or simply ignored the cold with a simple card game. With generous backing from Taipei County Government and Bank of Panhsin, last weekend marked the launch of LIGHT.SCAPE – an unique public art project by the UK-based creative group, United Visual Artists (UVA). Working in conjunction with EN AVANT Creative, part of the Freshness Collective, and Dan H., co-founder of this creative studio and Freshness Mag, the exhibition features the centerpiece titled Volume, which addressed a fundamental curiosity inherited within all human nature – the interest in light itself.
After a year of planning, along with the unenvia:ble tasks of customized central programming software, motion sensors, and assembling thousands of LED panels. The folks at UVA also had to deal with high humidity of the tropical climate in Taiwan, where the exhibition is taking place. The result: 46 columns made of LED panels that create a surreal environment and transform light from a distant, intangible element into an organic form. Exhibition goers are encouraged to interact among the columns, where their motions are pick-up by sensors all around and instantly translate in digital outputs, express in lights and music.
Located at the public square at new Taipei County Hall in Banciao, Volume by United Visual Artists (UVA) will be open to the general public until Thursday, December 4th
