British street art magazine VNA traveled to Amsterdam to pay a visit to Chaz and Bob, the duo who make up the art collective The London Police. The guys discuss moving to Amsterdam in the late ’90s, a time and place that was terrific for young, aspiring artists, with an environment in which one could “get away with anything.” They also trace the evolution of their iconic Lad figure, something that started with rudimentary sketches and eventually blossomed into a mission to draw the Lad’s likeness everywhere, just because it made them laugh. And though it’s a simply illustrated character, Chaz believes the different iterations take on distinct personalities of their own. He ultimately expresses gratitude for his pen and ink creation, as it’s allowed him to travel the world. Check out the video after the click.

Embracing the immediacy and accessibility of the platform, 13thWitness has cranked out InstaMatic’, a new book comprised entirely of photos taken via Instagram. Spanning 182 pages and coming in a beautiful hardback cover, the book comes as a testament to the power of new media and internet photography, and is available now from 13thWitness.

On paper, the team-up of of NEIGHBORHOOD and MAD may not make very much sense. One is a no-frills Japanese label obsessed with the hard edged imagery spewing from the subculture of motorcycles, the other is a lighthearted magazine of fun-poking aimed at every nook and cranny in pop culture. So despite the apparent disparity in their respective mission statements, the two are getting together for a small capsule collection. The pieces included of course bear the image of Alfred E. Neuman, MAD’s pranskter mascot and long time inhabitant of t-shirts. The drop isn’t without the NEIGHBORHOOD influence though, as the team applies a black and white touch for an interesting take on the buoyant imagery from MAD’s catalog. Hit the jump to check out the hoodie as well and stick with us for more info on this collabo.
