In 2009 entrepreneur Scott Devon founded Devon Motorworks, with an eye toward manufacturing a bespoke American supercar based on the Dodge Viper platform. The Devon GTX concept was ultimately short-lived, as the Dodge Viper ceased production in 2010. Ultimately, just two examples of the vehicle were built, featuring a refreshed body with upwards-swiveling doors and two-tone finish, and under the hood, an 8.4-liter Viper engine good for 650 horsepower. Over the weekend serial number 001 of the Devon GTX was auctioned off at the 2012 Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Arizona. The black and chrome street legal model, complete with a 2012 special construction title, went for a cool $220,000.

Often called “world’s deadliest off-road race”, the courses on Dakar Rally are equally stunning and unforgiving. But the rally also serves as a real-world test track for vehicles, especially those not known to have off-road capabilities such as the MINI. Thanks to Germany’s X-raid racing team and sponsor Monster Energy, the MINI ALL4 Racing entered this month’s 2012 Dakar Rally with high hopes. Four teams in total, including nine-time Dakar Rally winner Stéphane Peterhansel, his co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret, who has three Dakar wins of his own, and Michel Perin, another triple Dakar winner. Pairing with each team was candy-color coated MINI ALL4 Racing, a converted MINI Countryman. Predominately made of weight saving carbon fiber and powered by a twin-turbo diesel engine, the MINI ALL4 Racing is able to generate 315-horsepower with a top speed of 180km/h or 112 mph. Though not as fast as its racetrack going cousins, the MINI ALL4 Racing was made to be equally durable and speedy at the same time. While it is roughly 5% larger in volume, most of the room is taken up by full-sized spare tires, steel roll cage, and shock absorption system. A carbon fiber cockpit includes all essential data at the ready with a bare minimal design to prevent information overload. Thanks to attention to details like these, Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottre were able to edged out against the competition and took home another Dakar Rally Car Category title at this year’s race.

Perhaps the Panamera is not the most sporty model from the Porsche stable, yet its true potential is unveiled by Japanese tuning house WALD INTERNATIONAL. An aggressive full body kit, the Black Bison, was developed to accentuate the curves of the sporty saloon. All of the parts are made from lightweight carbon fiber, and various air vents were added to the body to create a sharper aesthetic. The package also includes a set of larger alloy wheels in a matte black color, accented by bronze-colored lips. Finishing the vehicle off is a pair of dual exhausts, tightening up the rear view and lowered suspension for a better stance. via: Carscoop

L.L. Bean might thwart a position long held by Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile with its own Bootmobile. To help celebrate the outdoor goods label’s 100th anniversary, the Maine-base company sought Echo Artz to recreate L.L. Bean’s most famous footwear, the Maine Hunting Boots, in a facsimile much, much larger than life. At around 13′ in height, 20′ 6″ in length, and 7′ 6″ in width, a fiberglass replica of the boot sits on a Ford F-250 Super Duty Diesel truck. And because L.L. Bean always been an environmentally conscious company, the Bootmobile will generates 0% CO2 emission thanks to its urea tank and filter. After its initial debut at Brunswick, ME, where the Maine Hunting Boots are made, and a public unveiling at New York City’s Times Square, the L.L. Bean Bootmobile will criss-cross the U.S. for surprise appearances. via: Autoblog

The dust has only just begun to settle on the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and we’re already getting pictures and specs from cars featured at the Tokyo Auto Salon. One of the hottest items making its world premiere is the BRZ Black Edition, which is the result of a collaboration between Sabaru and the racing team Prova. The BRZ runs on 19″ Enkei alloy wheels that are hugged by Michelin performance tires and controlled by Brembo brakes. The interior features racing bucket seats as well as a host of STI gear, including a new shift knob, sport exhaust system, lowering springs, tower bar, and stainless steel mesh brake hoses. From 1967 to 1970, Toyota only produced 351 2000GT sports cars, which were quickly seen as a very curvaceous alternative to the speed coming out of the United States and Europe. Well, we can now make that 352 with the launch of the Toyota 2000GT SEV electric concept car launched in front of a large crowd at the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon. The 2000GT SEV was designed by the Crazy Car Project under the direction of the Toyota Automobile Association, where the revived sportscar received a 21st century power upgrade capable of running off of solar power. Back in the 60′s the 2000GT flaunted a 2-liter straight-six, 150hp DOHC engine that worked smoothly with its 5-speed manual transmission and 4-wheel disc brakes. The 2000GT SEV will retain its sexy exterior, but, internally, the transformation is drastic: there will be an electric motor running underneath the hood drawing power from on-board lithium ion batteries that are recharged through solar energy panels integrated into the hood and black glass. Inside the cockpit, the 2000GT SEV features upgraded gadgets, including toys from Panasonic, JBL, and Gentex. Get another look at this blast from the past after the jump. via: Autoblog

It looks like 2012 will be a great year for Lexus, as the buzz of the LF-LC concept car spreads across the media like wild fire, and now they give us a glimpse of their one-of-a-kind LFA Roadster concept. The stage was set up at the Tokyo Auto Salon to showcase the capabilities of the brand new Toyota 86, known as the Scion FR-S here, but Lexus threw in a huge surprise for the audience. It is hard to decide what was more breathtaking, to see the LFA Roadster in real life, or the fact that it starts to drift around upon entering the mini-circuit. This drop-top concept is the only one in existence right now, and these types of antics can only happen in Japan. Click after the jump to check out the full video of the LFA getting sideways.

Upon graduation, French design student Vincent Montreuil finished his degree project based on the 1965 Alfa Giulia GTA, a member of the supremely popular Alfa Romeo GTA series. While the concept retained some resemblances to the original, like the lowered cockpit, Montreuil reconstituted the would-be materials going to the chassis. This modern day Alfa Giulia comes in at only 1,760 pounds and boasts a 200 horsepower drive train. Now the question remains, will Alfa Romeo build it? via: Yanko Design

In 1953 Chevrolet rolled out its first sports car. Built by hand and named after small fighting ship, the Corvette was an instant classic. The automaker is set to celebrate the car’s 60th birthday with a special edition 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible. The engine, a 427-cubic inch LS7 V8 good for 505 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, is taken from the Corvette Z06 and makes the 427 the fastest Corvette Convertible ever made. It also borrows the driveline, rear axle and latest-generation Magnetic Selective Ride Control from the Z06. Similarly, six-speed manual is the only transmission option. Carbon fiber components at the raised hood, fender and floor panels help to lower the curb weight to 3,355 pounds and enable the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of over 190 mph. Finally, in honor of the 60-year milestone, Chevrolet is offering a special 60th Anniversary Package for all 2013 Corvettes. The package includes Arctic White paint, Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior, ZR1-style rear spoiler, gray-painted brake calipers and special badging. The 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Convertible will make its public debut at the Barrett Jackson car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 21st. via: Autoblog

In the past, the only thing green about Rolls-Royce was that it took a ton of it to be able to ride around in one. But now, for the brand that has been the symbol of wealth and extravagance well beyond many of its fellow car designers, the company is building a new identity around being environmentally green. The 102EX Phantom EV is an all-electric concept car that serves as Rolls-Royce‘s response to other luxury green vehicles designed by the likes of Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche. While the rest of the car industry is still working to grow its green market, moves by these luxury brands demonstrate that there may be some real staying power to this trend. Primarily a working model for Rolls-Royce designers, not too many performance specifics are being passed around; instead the ultra-luxury car-maker is looking more to drive the discussion and gauge the interest of its very select market. With all the hype around the 2013 Porsche 911′s, it’s good to know that advance shots of its kid-brother, the 2013 Boxster, didn’t slip through the cracks. Set to arrive in showrooms this summer – when this famed drop-top can truly show its colors – the 2013 Boxster has lost some weight, gained some more power, and flaunts some new attractive exterior features. Under the hood, the 2013 Boxster has a 2.7-liter flat six that pumps out 265 hp that comes standard with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual clutch. Although the details aren’t in on its total weight, Porsche announced this model will be lighter than its current version due to a new type of aluminum and other lightweight material upgrades, which helps to give it a 15% boost in overall fuel economy. On the outside, it’s easy to notice new bumper designs that include daytime running lights, the addition of a crease that runs to the rear fenders, and the re-positioning of the mirrors from the A-frame to the doors. The rear spoiler has even been moved back and blended into the taillights helping to give the Boxster a sleek silhouette even with a larger overall wheelbase. You can expect more news and specs on this third-generation Porsche Boxster as it prepares to hit showroom floors this summer. via: Autoblog
