Barbour x Triumph Speed Twin Concept | By Roy Norton & Tom Kasher

Designers Roy Norton and Tom Kasher were dreaming up a Triumph Motorcyle concept that blended a retro theme with modern elements while they were still in university. Once the two landed positions at motorcycle design studio Xenophya following graduation, they reached out to Product Manager Simon Warburton, who liked the pitch he heard. He subsequently drafted a brief requesting “a bike based around our 865cc air-cooled parallel twin, styled to appeal to younger riders.” The guys took inspiration from cafe racers, bobbers and past bike models and crafted a Speed Twin Concept with the base of a Bonneville, restyled and now featuring girder forks for a retro feel. Barbour cloth was used on the seat fabric and grips for an added dose of style, while the filler cap and instruments were also redesigned. The resulting motorcycle seen here was created using a combination of model board, foam and automotive styling clay. It has since been successfully remade into a full-scale model with Firestone tires, inverted levers and Thruxton brakes, ensuring that future designs by Roy and Tom are more than likely to reach the production stage. Affinity Cycles Shop Profile

Brooklyn’s Affinity Cycles has been at the forefront of the fixed gear bike movement since the beginning. Amitabh Joshi, a film student at New York City’s School of Visual Arts and a regular customer at Affinity, shot a video profile of the shop as part of a school film project. The clip introduces founder and CEO Jason Gallacher, who characterizes Affinity as equal parts club house, business and operation, but ultimately something he simply loves to do. Shop mechanic Sammy Lopez explains that track bikes became popular with messengers because of the low maintenance factor, as the bike’s components are little more than a chain, crank and wheels. Takuya Sakamoto, a former messenger, outlines the pivotal role that cheap Japanese Keirin bike frames played in bringing the popularity of track bikes to the United States. Check out the video after the click.

Yamaha VMAX Hyper Modified – By Roland Sands | Video

A motorcycle “lifer”, Roland Sands recieved his first bike at the age of five as a birthday present. He also gotten into his first accident and broken bone on the same day as well. But the word “impossible” was never in Sands’ personal dictionary. Even after some 32 broken bones and multiple surgeries, the California-base racer is still pushing the edge, though in relative safety of his workshop today. Chosen to be part of Yamaha VMAX Hyper Modified Project, Sands, like French customizer Ludovic Lazareth and German-base Marcus Walz, had the task of improving the legendary VMAX. Difficult? Maybe. Impossible? No.

With only weeks to go before the unveiling at last month’s EICMA, and crew altered the stance along with the sub-frame, fuel tank, and etc… The result was a streetfighter with an even more aggressive configuration. Instead of sitting high and upright, the rider now sits low and amalgamates with the frame. While never far from the bike’s centerpiece, its 175-horsepower, liquid-cooled V4 powerplant, ’ creation is, never the less, lighter and meaner than the original.

Biomega Copenhagen Chainless Commuter Bike

Shaft-driven bikes have been around for over 100 years, but they’ve never looked this good. Yet, for  those familiar with the Copenhagen-based , we have come to expect nothing less.

With designs that include bikes with bamboo frames and others born from collaborations with world-renowned industrial designers, Biomega’s newest project is equally impressive. The Biomega Copenhagen was designed with both the fundamentals of an urban commuter and the attention to detail needed to fabricate an sleek aluminum frame. This shaft and belt-driven bike makes commuting in dress clothes less risky because there are no chains, grease or gear cassettes to make things messy. And with 8 -tuned gears pushed by an internal hub and front and back disc brakes, you’ll have all the power you’ll need to get up all the hills and race down the other side. via: Pocket-Lint

Take a detailed look at the Biomega Copenhagen from stem to wheel nuts after the jump.
