24 Kilates x Reebok Workout 25th Anniversary

Having taken a look at Packer Shoe’s contribution to the expansive 25th anniversary celebration of Reebok‘s Workout trainer, we now shift our attention to 24 Kilates. The crew at the Barcelona boutique wanted to try something that’s never been done with the shoe, while at the same time respecting its basic structure, which meant applying colors along the lines in the manner of a “trompe l’oeil.” The result is an exceptionally attractive sneaker finished in black and forest green with gum sole, dressed in a combination of suede, neoprene, full-grain leather and patent leather at the upper. Hits of bright orange on the branding at the heel and tongue finish the distinctive look. via: HS

Packer Shoes x Reebok Workout 25th Anniversary

1987 wasn’t just the birth year of the Workout Plus — it was the year Reebok‘s sales, riding the crest in the popularity of aerobic fitness, surpassed those of the brand’s biggest competitor, . Emerging seemingly from nowhere in the late 1970s, Reebok would go on to capture 26.7 percent of the athletic footwear market, to ’s 23.3 percent. Analysts would point to ’s overlooking their female audience that led to their stumble and Reebok’s newfound dominance, which was at its zenith in 1987. (It was an admittedly short-lived victory, as would reclaim the throne thanks in part to an innovative new technology the brand called Air.) In 2012, Reebok is celebrating the 25th birthday of its classic Workout trainer by partnering with fifteen different global retailers, each of whom will design their own Workout style. New Jersey’s Packer Shoes maintains the simple elegance of the model, dressing the upper in tonal burgundy suede paired with a gum outsole. Click through for additional images, courtesy of HS, and look for the shoe — along with the other collaborative sneakers — to release on February 15th at participating retailers.
