Inside Supreme: Anatomy of a Global Streetwear Cult

If there ever was a quintessential streetwear brand, then Supreme is it. Despite founder ’s longstanding rejection of that category, the label has been a model within the industry, maintaining the uber-cool aesthetic that emanated from their roots on Lafayette during their nearly two-decades of global prominence. Yet despite their obvious importance and influence within the culture, the behind the scenes info has been kept to a minimum thanks to Jebbia’s weariness to dilute the mystique that has always been part of the appeal. The latest in the small list of folks who have managed a sit down interview with the man is Alex Hawgood, who breaks open a bit more of the background in his piece Inside : Anatomy of a Global Streetwear Cult. The two part story gets at the mind behind the brand, and is a must-read for anybody who has ever ogled a piece of box logo laden apparel. Follow us after the jump for some images from the lineage and check out Part 1 and Part 2 over at The Business of Fashion.

Stone Island Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

Three key concepts inspired the upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 collection from Stone Island. These concepts and thoughts were New Brutalism, Tessellation and Aircraft Carrier, providing depth to the design and construction of the garments. New Brutalism spurred in the 50′s and its raw, functional architecture style is translated on intarsia, pockets, zips and the functional construction of the pieces. Tessellation is a term used for mosaic or tiles that makes up geometric design on a surface and this is evident on the graphic patterns on the items. Lastly, the Aircraft Carrier refers to the influence from the military uniforms worn by the officers who worked on the aircraft carriers. As with each collection, this season’s pieces also make use of the specially treated fabrics which are developed for Stone Island. Click after the jump to preview the full lookbook.
