Eye of America 35 Foot Long Film Camera | Video

Usually when people tell you to think “big picture,” they’re not thinking as literally as Dennis Manarchy, who just finished creating the prototype of a one-of-a-kind 35-foot-long camera he calls Eye of America. As a part of his upcoming Kickstarter-backed photography series and rolling exhibit, Vanishing Cultures, Manarchy will use his mega-camera to take portraits of people around the United States who represent each culture within this great mixing pot of a country. After rolling up to his subject via truck, each picture Manarchy snaps will produce a set of negatives that measure 6′ by 4.5′ each, which will then be fit together to create prints that can measure up to two stories tall. Those not lucky enough to be featured in Manarchy’s viewfinder can still visit his exhibit to view the final pieces alongside their original negatives and even get a chance to walk inside the camera. Check out Manarchy’s Kickstarter video that will feature when his page launches on February 1 after the jump to learn more about how you can help make his big dream a reality.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR To Launch Soon | Rumor 2

2011 was certainly not an easy year for high-tech companies in Asia. First came the earthquake/tsunami in Northern Japan which destroyed much of the public infrastructure last March. Then flood water inundated much of Thailand, a major manufacturing point in South East Asia, for over a month. While tragic, both episodes might have played a part in expediting new product launch, including the much talked about Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR. Aside from our “doctored image” of the purported camera above, the jury is still out on the camera’s exact specifications. Some media outlets have mentioned an image sensor similar to the upcoming flagship, Canon EOS-1D X, with the new DIGIC 5 image processor. Others stated the increase in AF points to around 19, though not as much as the 7D and EOS-1D X. One hotly debated feature, also the newest rumor, is the addition of eye control auto-focus, whereby the camera tracks the movement of your eye to determine its focus point. But the most talked about issue regarding the EOS 5D Mark II is its release date. Instead of waiting till September 2012 for the Photokina trade show in Germany, unnamed sources have said a launch date as early as March or April of this year. A bit improbable since Canon is launching EOS-1D X around the same time. But giving the extraordinary occurrences in 2011, a simultaneous releases of flagship products is quite possible. via: Canon Rumors

Beats By Dr. Dre To End Partnership With Monster Cable

As Consumer Electronics Show drew to a close over the weekend, the biggest news wasn’t just about Microsoft departure from the annual tech forum. One other notable update was Beats by Dr. Dre‘s decision not to renew its exclusive contract with Cable. From its very first headphones, the Studio, in 2008, to a full range of audio products it offers today, Beats By made an astonishing transition from a mere accessories manufacturer to a lifestyle label. Some of the credit goes to Monster Cable, founder Noel Lee, its occasional controversial marketing tactics. Speculations about the end of the 5-year partnership grew when Taiwanese cellphone maker acquired 51% of Beats at $300 million. Around the same time, Noel Lee’s son Kevin, an integral part of partnership, left to create SOL Republic, an audio accessories label with uncanny similarities to Beats except at half the price. Meanwhile, Monster already established its next partnership, this time with denim label Diesel.
