
If you have visited Gap’s website recently, or simply have been keeping up to date with the blogs and RSS feed, you probably have already seen the new Gap logo which is the talk of retail town at the moment. All-American affordable retailer Gap has decided to rebrand itself and quietly switch over from the old logo we had grown up with to a new one without announcement or a launch. While some have described the logo as a modern vintage take on the old and prevalent logo, some continue to speculate what this move means and what it can mean for the brand in the future. The New Yorker has released their iPad App with a little bit of help from actor, Jason Schwartzman. The app is available now via the iTunes store for free however users will have to pay $4.99 per issue with a new issue being available every Monday. The launch of the app is a great sign that more and more media outlets are evolving with the rest of the media industry. Hogwarts is now in session– even though technically, the three merry men of Harry Potter, Harry, Hermione and Ron, are not going back to school in the seventh installment of the literary and pop culture sensation created by J.K. Rowling. As Warner Brothers and the Harry Potter crew enter the final stretch of their epic seven-book journey, the film giant had just released the official trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. While the first part of the seventh installment will be releasing later this year, the finale won’t be released until 2011, so Harry Potter fans might have to suffer through a cliff hanger for a few months before delayed gratification happens. Travis Barker has released the first single off of his upcoming debut album, Give The Drummer Some, which is due out later this year. The blink-182 drummer hooked up with The Cool Kids on the first single, Jump Down, with Mike Rocks and Chuck Inglish providing the lyrics over Barker’s drums. Though the exact damages are unknown, since these are illegal ventures, a rough estimation place the cost to legit labels and intellectual rights owners at billions of dollars a year. Yet, unlike the war against illicit drugs or terrorism (and yes, it is a war), there are virtually no publicity or media coverage on this rampant scourge on the global economy, till now.
In what is the most profound look at the economy of fake goods, Nicholas Schmidle, a fellow at New America Foundation, with the help of New York Times Magazine, went on a fact-finding journey by utilized one of the most copied, knock-off, ripe-off goods – a pair of Nike Tiempo. The resulting article is one of intrigue, filled of history, like the close relationship between the founding of United States and counterfeit painting of George Washington, to the wanton culture of counterfeiter and their protector, many of whom are high ranking Communist party officials, which whom the US State Department have let you think otherwise because the sensitive nature of this acute geo-political issue. Though no ideal solutions are in sight for the time being, Inside The Knockoff-Tennis-Shoe Factory is a fascinating work of investigative journalism and a must read this weekend.

We thought Dutch artist Parra is the only one holding up his red paintbrush and painting the town red with Converse, but it turns out, for Converse’ Fall/Winter 2010 (Paint The Town)RED collaborative collection, the label has partnered up with a few artists, Giovanni Estevez, Aaron Martin, Cody Hudson, and of course, Parra. Each artist has been invited to put his unique spin on a pair of sneakers, and a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the (Paint The Town) RED collection will go towards The Global Fund to help fight AIDS and HIV.
