Fresh Celeb: Tinie Tempah Nike M.A.G.

Perhaps because it was the last leg of his U.K. tour, English hip-hop artist Tinie Tempah was recently spotted with a pair of Nike MAG while performing on stage at London’s O2 Arena. Forever known as the first man ever to purchase the MAG, it is not known if the pair he wore was the very same one that he lavished a cool $37,500 for or a pair of “back-ups”. Though it wouldn’t been nicer if his outlandish custom lite up as well. See Tinie and his MAG in full technocolor spectrum after the click. via: HB

R.I.P. Heavy D 1967 – 2011 | 90s Hip Hop Pioneer With A Large Heart

Heavy D on his 2008 album Vibes

The only rival to his larger-than-life appearance was the oversize delivery of his soulful rhyme, Heavy D, along with a trio known as The Boyz (Glen Parrish, Troy Dixon, and Edward Ferrell) racked up a string of hits during the early part of 1990s. But more importantly, their successes helped to set the foundation for other artists to follow and ushered what many called the golden age of hip-hop. In recent years, Heavy D, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, tried his hands on acting with memorable appearances on television series A Different World, Living Single, Boston Common, and even a cameo role on the just released film Tower Heist with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy. But music, his first love, was never far behind. After found unconscious at his home in Beverly Hills earlier today, Heavy D was rushed to a nearby hospital where the hip hop pioneer died. He was 44 years old.

Shepard Fairey All Tomorrows Parties Music Festival | Murals at Asbury Park

All Tomorrow’s Parties is a London-based organization that’s been promoting festivals in the UK, the United States and Australia since 1999. Its most recent event occurred during the last weekend in September in Asbury Park, New Jersey, with British band Portishead, seemingly risen from the dead, guest-curating the festival lineup, which included acts like Swans, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, Ultramagnetic MC’s, Public Enemy and Jeff Magnum from the band Neutral Milk Hotel. A disparate lineup to be sure, but what they had in common was their fringe status, far removed from the mainstream, which likely suited artist just fine. He was commissioned to create the poster for the Asbury Park festival, and through the urging of art dealer Jonathan LeVine, became further involved by painting a series of music-inspired murals on walls throughout the beachfront town. Additionally, Fairey set up an exhibition — similarly themed around music, with album cover art as the primary focus — at a space on the boardwalk and even DJ’ed a set as part of three-day event. Click through for video of the artist discussing his involvement with All Tomorrow’s Parties, as well as images of his murals and temporary gallery space.
