Journey– the physical act and course of travel from one place to another, in a romantic sense, embodies more than just moving from point A to point B. For Louis Vuitton which started out making suitcases that accompany men on their spiritual and physical metamorphosis, journey is a hefty word laden with experience, meaning and growth– it is an emotional experience that can and often lead to self discovery. For a few years now, Louis Vuitton has been working on the Journeys campaign with renowned photographer, Annie Leibovitz, and has shot some of the world’s leading personalities including the man who brought the former Soviet Union Perestroika, Mikahail Gorbachev, French actress Catherine Deneuve, actor Sean Connery and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. This year, keeping in line with the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Louis Vuitton has worked its Journeys campaign with soccer legends Zinedine Zidane, Pele and Diego Maradona.

Have you ever wondered, how did the things hanging in your wardrobe get there? Yes, you did pick it out in the store, tried it on, whipped out the plastic and paid for it, then lugged it home in a gorgeous, crease-free paper bag emblazoned with that brand. What about beyond that? Sure everyone can work out the basic production logic of how a piece of clothing or accessory came to be, but a pictorial depiction is often left to be shaped by our own imaginations. Louis Vuitton embarked on an interesting project with famed photographer/blogger, Todd Selby of The Selby, to document the journey of a man’s wardrobe– all the way from conception to production, down to ever last stitch and sew and zip and fold. Then, after visiting the production facilities– or rather, atelier (since the craftsman who made Louis Vuitton are more so artisans than simply workers)– The Selby traveled the world and does what he does best– knock on the doors of famed creative personalities and check out their homes, and share his pictures with all of us curious beings on the internet.

Recently turned into a blockbuster feature, Pirate Radio, its eponymous movement started in the 1960s UK when pop radio stations were broadcasting songs from offshore, and eventually became the antithesis of BBC, who virtually monopolized the radio. Tapping into the rich culture and heritage of music and defiance, Palladium drew inspiration from Pirate Radio for its relaunch in the UK market.
The campaign follows Palladium as the label explores through the nooks and crannies of a rusting anti-aircraft tower at the mouth of River Thames which was used as an offshore base of operations in the 1960s by the original pirates. While Pirate Radio has been born, celebrated, squandered then revived, its high permeability in London today (they are still everywhere, hidden in plain site)attests to its relevance and importance in the music culture and industry. It is one of the rare gems instrumental in breaking new music despite the growing influence of Internet these days.
Palladium’s journey through London’s inner city rooftops studded with homemade antennas has been made into a documentary film which debuted alongside Palladium’s UK launch at The Old Blue Last in conjunction with footwear retailer, size?. Aside from the film screening, there was also live performances by DJs and MCs featured in the film such as Logan Samma, J2K Jammer and Ms Dynamite at the event. Check out photos from Palladium’s expedition in London and check out the film online at London Pirate Radio.

Taking the adidas Originals DNA off the basketball court and into the streets, the sportswear label is onto its new collaboration with Foot Locker Europe by taking some of its most iconic basketball court shoes–the Top Ten and Hardcourt Hi– and giving them new styling and some tough street credibility. The classics are given a wilder image with oversized Trefoil logos such as the large silver Trefoil on the tongue of the navy rip-stop hardtop and the rear of the Top Ten Hi with a mesh tongue. In another case, adidas Originals and Foot Locker opted for more interesting material such as denim to keep the Hardcourt Hi and Hooded Flock more stylistically casual than performance. To go with the shoes, adidas Originals revived one of its most endearing and enduring items, the Hooded Flock, in adidas Originals white and blue colorways and made it reversible. Aside from the Top Ten, Hardcourt and Hooded Flock, the collection also includes the HF FZ1 Mesh Jacket and two caps to keep the entire look pulled together and truly Originals. The full collection is available for purchase and viewing online at The Sneaker Caddy Collection microsite. Enjoy!
