Interview with DERRICK HODGSON [MADREAL]

An Interview by young THAWT
-------------------------------
What do you think of the skate-graffiti synthesis that has taken place?
I don’t really have deep thoughts about the whole thing… I grew-up with gravel roads, tree forts, pellet guns and dirt bikes… I have never been a ‘skater’ or a ‘graf bro’… I rode my first half pipe last summer and mashed my ankle and I have the worst can control. I am a fan of both art forms…
With the advent of sneaker companies doing artist series rooted in graffiti or non-mainstream artists, and skate companies commissioning artists for decks and clothing, is it a step in the right direction for the art you create, or does the mix confuse the artists’ messages?
I have found some hypocritical notions in applying my art to some commercial endeavours but when I think to hard about it my brain hurts and I start to get bored… I have met a huge batch of great folk via the collaborative and commercial work I have engaged in…
