‘Mr. Shoe Shop (Sample)’ Exhibition Date: 20 May – 25 June 2005 Location: 6/F, Grand View Commercial Centre, 29-31 Sugar Street, Causeway Bay ----------------------------- Text: Young thawt | Photos: Mike Chung Hong Kong based illustrator / toy designer Michael Lau ( of Gardenergala fame ) has designed 100 hand painted figures on display at Michael Lau's Gallery in Causeway Bay. The event has been dubbed the “Mr. Show Shop (SAMPLE) Exhibition” and features the Nike Air Force 1 painted in the likeness of Nike’s crossover sneaker designs with others springing from Lau’s own fountain of inspirations. Lau’s work is known for reflecting and embodying today’s lifestyle and trends in street culture. The “Mr. Shoe” characters express the nature of Lau’s design philosophy; that although there is one mold, each shoe takes on its own personality and chooses its own audience. No two shoes are alike in their coloring and individual aura but all have the common composition of the Air Force 1 model, this is their similarity. “We are living in our own world, with our own culture” said Lau.  But as the “Mr. Shoe” Exhibition conveys,“We are living under the blue sky... and we have 101 different stories.”   Words and images are copyrighted.
