A few months after the ALIFE exhibition at the Deitch Projects we had an opportunity to chat with JEST at the ALIFE office. This was 2003 -- much of the LES was still under cover. There were no guide books pointing toward Orchard Street, Rivington Street or Eldridge Street. Yet, Japanese, European and midtown tourists made the rounds and absorbed the goods. There were two boutique sneaker stores; SB was still short for skateboarding. A neighborhood was just about to blow up, this was and is New York City. ALIFE was there to help jump start the awakening of the LES. Rediscovered in our archives is this set of photos Dan shot on our sitting with JEST.
