Blind Barber For Gillette – Pop-Up Barber Shop Opening With Common | Event Recap

A thoroughly modern building is the last place you should find a relic of the past. But that is exactly what you will find at the 8th floor of MILK Studios in New York City – a turn of century saloon (make that “turn of 2 centuries”). Half saloon, half hunting lounge, the space is also Blind Barber for Gillette, a pop-up barber shop cater to industry insiders during New York Fashion Week. Whether it be a short breather between back to back runway shows, or just a last minute trim for next week’s Valentine’s Day, the folks from Blind Barber are ready. To celebrate its opening, hip hop rhapsodist and actor Common to congratulate Blind Barber co-founders Adam Kirsch and Jeff Laub last evening. Designer Richard Chai also took a break from all the fashion week mayhem and swung by as show of support. All the while, invited guests took the opportunity to enjoy drinks, hors d’oeuvre, each other’s company, and last but not least, a quick hair cut. Part of festivities organized by MADE, a collaborative fashion initiative by MILK Studios and like-minded partners, the Blind Barber for Gillette Pop-Up Barber Shop will be onsite till next Wednesday, February 15th.

WK Interact x Ride

Noted NYC street artist WK Interact has partnered with Ride Snowboards on a capsule collection that marries fractured representations of human motion with technical snowboarding gear and equipment. The capsule includes the DH2 Snowboard in two sizes — one 155cm and the other 158cm — as well as the waterproof Newport Jacket and Belltown Pant. Each piece in the collection features a white base adorned with splashes of red and black, with bold text and streaking lines meant to convey chaos and movement captured in time. BlackRainbow Paris is proud to be the only retailer to carry the collection in Europe.

2012 Audi TT RS Plus

Audi has announced more powerful TT RS Plus, coming in both Coupe and Roadster versions, and now featuring a 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo good for 360 horsepower and 343 lb-ft of torque. Customers will have the option of going with a manual six-speed transmission or the seven-speed S tronic. The Coupe with S tronic transmission can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds, with the manual lagging just behind at 4.3 seconds. The roadster splits the difference at 4.2 seconds (manual: 4.4 seconds). Both models are electronically limited to a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph). The exterior of the TT-RS Plus is distinguished with a single-frame radiator grille in polished anthracite with trim frame finished with a matte aluminum look. The side mirrors are outfitted with carbon fiber reinforced polymer, while the Audi RS sport exhaust has black oval tailpipe trims. The 19-inch wheels are painted black with red accent on the rim flanges, and a large fixed rear wing increases downforce at the back of the car.

NOOKA App – A New Way To Look At Time

The Nooka app takes something that’s prosaic and makes it engaging. Simply put, it’s a new way to look at time, featuring three face designs in which the hour is marked by a colored shape, either arranged in a circular form or into discrete rows of pill-like forms, while minutes and seconds are arrayed underneath as two lit-up linear graphs running underneath. Color choices are vast and can be custom designed by the user. The app includes a world clock, stop watch and timer, all of which can be viewed using the different faces. It’s a fresh approach to conveying time, and for children, a more intuitive way to grasp the concept. The Nooka app is available now through iTunes. Click through for a video demonstration.

Tim Hendricks – Hand-Made Tattoo Machines | Video

Californian Tim Hendricks is an artist and a polymath: he skateboards, surfs, works on motorcycles and also puts in a good amount of time as a tattoo artist. He developed his craft as a teenager by tattooing local Hispanic gang members, and it’s that kind of DIY aesthetic that’s propelled Tim toward his latest venture — custom building tattoo machines. Every aspect of the machine is custom made. Coils are hand wound, parts are hand crafted, which enables Tim to construct special one-off machines to order. adidas Originals ZX8000 – White-Supergreen-Purple

While the adidas aficionados among you will recognize this upcoming ZX 8000 in White/Supergreen/Purple isn’t a new colorway, the soft pastel tones make for a good harbinger of spring, and a refreshing sense of renewal the season occasions. The construction of the shoe, on the other hand, is firmly rooted in the past. It features the Torsion system adidas introduced to runners in the 1980s that worked with the foot’s natural tendency to have independent motion of the heel and forefoot, creating superior stability and control. Today, we appreciate the shoe for its retro good looks, though the comfortable fit certainly doesn’t hurt. Bentley Continental GT V8 – Flying Over Munich | Video

Bentley‘s logo may have wings, but the vehicles themselves don’t. This doesn’t necessarily preclude automotive flight, however — the British luxury carmaker debuted its new 4.0-liter V8 Continental GT coupe over the city of Munich, as the vehicle soared above downtown buildings tethered to a helicopter. While curious onlookers gawked, the car arrived at its destination on a special podium atop a high-rise near Munich’s city center. Klaus Becker, general manager of Bentley Munich, would dryly comment that the helicopter was simply “the fastest way to get to the rooftop podium.” 300 VIP guests celebrated the launch of the Continental V8 nearby at the SkyLounge, situated in a bridge between two skyscrapers. Ever the contrarian, billionaire Elon Musk decided to debut the new Tesla model at the company’s design center in California last night, instead of the ongoing car show in Chicago. A rather obtuse gesture to the rest of car industry, yet its the same “outside the box” thinking that Tesla thrives on. Case in point, the new Tesla Model X. To be the company’s third production model, the Model X is Tesla’s take on the growing “crossover” genre of the market. Sharing many similarities with its sedan counterpart, the Tesla Model S, the Model X will have the exact powertrain in the output range of 60 kWh and 85 kWh. There is a 10% reduction in distance per charge, however, since the Model X is slightly heavier. Never the less, the ranges are still quite respectable. For that extra push on steep climbs, Tesla will be offering an additional electric motor as option. When added, the Model X becomes an all-wheel drive speed demon, capable of 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds.

Like those on a modern-day airliner, Model X will have an “all-glass” control inside with LCD displays and an imposing 17-inch touchscreen at the center. But the most dramatic aspect of this new concept will be its rear doors. For ease of access to the second and third row seats, Tesla incorporated the “Falcon Doors” design, essentially gull-wing door with another hinge at center for them to tuck away further when spaces are tight. Because the lack of an engine, Model X has another bonus – two luggage compartments instead of one.

On schedule for production in late 2013, the Tesla Model X will be available in early 2014.

Limited Edt x Android Homme – Propulsion Hi

American label Andriod Homme has been crafting sneakers with an out-of-this-world look long before Nike announced they would be giving Lebron, Kobe, and Kevin Durant their own special edition NASA-inspired shoes for the NBA All Star Game later this month. This time around, Android Homme has paired up with Singapore-based Limited Edt to build a set of futuristic kicks that feature a metallic leather finish on top of a black velvet upper, each topped off with a metal dog tag marking its place as one of the 72 pairs to be made. Arriving in either a blue or red colorway, each pair features a hieroglyphic design on the ankle along with a matching translucent sole that gives each pair its own unique tone. While they aren’t for everyone, those who want to pick up a set will have to move quickly when these Propulsion Hi’s hit Limited Edt’s stores exclusively this March. via: streetthing

To celebrate the 88th Anniversary of Umbro sportswear, the brand has put together a four piece Classic Sportswear collection to recognize its unique soccer heritage ahead of the upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 season. Tapping into its line of classic silhouettes, Umbro redesigned its ’66 Anthem Jacket, the Mexico ’70 Jersey, the Taped Track Jacket, and the Drill Top with an eye toward making a stitch-by-stitch recreation of the original with a few modern refinements.
