Comprised by a troupe of creative tricksters, the Kid America Club been a staple of Lower East Side in NYC. It is difficult to categorize KAC‘s genre. Perhaps the best descriptions would be “Puppetry On Acid” or “The REAL Sesame Street”. Dabbled in everything from television shows, comedy recordings, to comic books, each feature a cast of colorful characters, many happened to be puppets. To continue its assault on boredom and lives too ordinary, KAC created a series of t-shirts, of which Club supporters can wear proudly. And of course the proceeds from the sales will fund more outrageous programming, including a new series titled Lil’ Hipsters.
The Kid America Club t-shirts are now available at its online store as well as Sold Out (We Sold Out), Caliroots, and others. In the meantime, check out KAC’s archive of works, online and free.

As announce earlier in February, LUMP has opened a new flagship store in Harajuku district of Tokyo. The new store is larger and closer to the main through way of Jingumae Avenue. However, it was also a bittersweet moment for designer Hiroaki Shitano (下野宏明) and LUMP family since the new flagship meant the closing of the original one, which has been home for both whiz and the now retired label Rebirth the last 5 years. (Freshness was fortunate to visit the original flagship in 2005). To commemorate this key transitional period, whiz and design collective 7STARS created special t-shirt. Printed on the front is the interior photo of the original flagship, with a brief write-up on its history and importance to the label. These colorways are only available exclusively at LUMP branch on ZOZO shipping network.

U.K.’s Ian Swift, better known just as Swifty, is by far one of the most influential typography specialists in his industry. With a vast portfolio of works, he set about and changed people’s preconceived notion of party and concert flyers, and to view them as an art form. Also redefined the form of a music magazine as an Art Director for Straight No Chaser. All the while, found time to create England’s first independent type foundry.
His recent creation, a special camouflage pattern created in collaboration with clothing label ADDICT called Swift Camo, is now offer as a line of accessories for men’s. Choose between the printed Woodland pattern (4-color print) or the embossed versions of wallet and iPod case. All made from premium leather. Now available at ADDICT’s online store and its flagship in London.

White is certainly the “new black” this season. The colorway dominates the range of collections, from Nike‘s Chinese Olympic athletes inspired Breakthrough Pack, the more recent Euro Champ Pack (see post below), even as the majority colorway on the Converse 1HUND(RED) collection. In addition to its 2 Warrior Windrunner jackets, in black and “Anthracite”, a very dark gray. Nike released an all white version to the “Road to Beijing” series. Similar to the 2 previous jackets, it is also called “The Warrior”. And like the other 2, it has a vertical zipper on both the front and rear panes, which allows the wearer to unzip the jacket in half and interchange with another. Plus, waterproof zip-pockets (similar to those on the Tech Pack), with violet/white gradients designs.
An unique aspect of the Nike Warrior Windrunner is the material. Instead of the usual smooth nylon shell found on most other Nike Windrunner, the Nike Warrior Windrunner Jackets are made with a more rigid nylon shell, imprinted with round, fish scales-like pattern. Very close to those found on the Nike Sphere apparel line. Finished with embroidered lining, in white, with “080808 Beijing”, signify August 8, 2008 – the opening day of Beijing Summer Olympics.

This high tech jacket by Japan’s MACKDADDY and Norway’s Helly Hansen includes all the seafaring technologies you will find on outfits of sailors competing in the Volvo Ocean Race, the most grueling and dangerous yacht race circuit (5 have died in its 32-year history). With breathable yet water-proof material specially developed by H/H called Helly Tech-XP, where the fabric is weave to a triangular pattern to provide the utmost durability. Offset openings to prevent moisture penetrations. Further applications can be found underneath. All seams are taped and reinforced with Gore-Tex and the entire is lined with another layer of breathable membrane. Another interesting aspect are the number of vents. Instead of the usual 2 vents positioned under the sleeves found on most other jacket. Helly Hansen went further by placing a total of 6 vents to maximize the comfortability of the wearer. The MACKDADDY x Helly Hansen high-tech jacket is currently available in limited number at Reed Space.

Last evening, 10.DEEP launched its 2nd lookbook for its Spring 2008 Collection. Titled “Rise of the 10th Brigade”, the delivery 2 lookbook offers a complete reversal of the previous “Champion Life-Blue Collar, Blue Blood” collection/lookbook launched last month. In place of decadence and well-mannered setting, this second release offers a more blatant look of life here in NYC, as the crew 10.DEEP go about “destroying” the original photo shoot backdrop. The graphics, along with the fabrics and colorways, are bold and specific. The silhouettes have altered as well, to a more militia/rebel inspired styling. All items will hit retail locations starting next week.
