Nike Vintage - Cortze Nylon

316588-861.jpg

Nike Cortze Nylon was not only a classic among Nike’s historical archive, it was the first ever sneaker produced by the company. Created in 1972, with the now iconic “Swoosh” marking on its side. But the Cortze Nylon also marked an even more important trait of Nike - the strive for technical breakthroughs in athletic gears, no matter what the sport might be. Under the late Bill Bowerman’s guidance, a nylon upper was used instead of the traditional all leather construction. A revolutionary move that not only lessen the weight of the Cortez, but made it more durable as well. As part of the Nike Vintage collection, the Cortze Nylon in its original form is once again available.

Nike - Jordan Opening Day Pack - Air Jordan Retro 1

325514-102.jpeg

During the month of October in 1993, Michael Jordan did the unthinkable. At the height of his career, after leading Chicago Bulls to its consecutive NBA Championship title and winning 3 consecutive NBA Finals MVP himself, the first player in NBA history to do so, Jordan announced his retirement from the sport that everyone identified him with. The following Spring, Jordan joined the minor league team for the Chicago White Sox franchise. The suddenness to his early retirement from basketball and transformation to a baseball player was mainly attributed to the death of his father, who was murdered during a botched robbery in 1993. To honor his father’s desire before his passing, Jordan played baseball for the duration of 1994.

To mark the opening day of MLB season this year. Nike released a limited edition Air Jordan 1 Retro, in the familiar pin-stripe designs as the Chicago White Sox. Baseball inspired designs are found all over the upper. Near the rear tab, a cross-bats embroidery with the number 3 and 51, represented Jordan’s stats of 3 HRs and 51 RBIs during short baseball career. (He returned to the court in 1995)

The Air Jordan 1 Retro, or more commonly called Jordan Opening Day Pack is currently available at NikeStore.com.

Nike - Jordan Countdown Pack - AJ IX (9) & XIV (14)

Nike - Jordan Countdown Pack - Jordan Collezione 14/9 Basketball Shoe

Second of the Jordan Countdown Pack with Air Jordan IX (9) and XIV (14), again adding to the total XXIII (23), Michael’s signature number. In their original colorways, the Air Jordan IX (9) marked the return to a simpler life for the legendary ball player as he retired early from the court and tried his hand at his other passion, baseball. For inspiration, designer Tinker Hatfield, another legendary figure, used the statue of Jordan outside the Chicago Bulls Arena.

Meanwhile, everything on the Air Jordan XIV (14) screamed fast. Based on Jordan’s own Ferrari 550 Maranello, Hatfield once again took elements of the Italian-made rocket: metallic mesh vent, streamline upper, and the iconic yellow emblem (with the Jumpman insignia). The black colorway also signified the last shot for Jordan as he scored against Utah Jazz, while wearing the black AJ XIV (14), to win his 6th and final NBA Championship.

Nike - AJF12 Air Jordan Force XXII (12) - Black/White

Nike - AJF12 LS - Air Jordan Force XXII (12) - Black-White-Metallic Silver

During 96-97 season, Nike’s Zoom Air unit made its debut on Air Jordan XII, the first in Jordan Brand collection to use the super lightweight, responsive air unit. With its reinforced forefoot in white leather and fan-like stitchings on black suede, inspired by “Nisshoki” or Raising -Sun flag used by the Japanese armed forces. The AJ XII demonstrated as a force to reckon with on the court.

So it is quite appropriate to create a hybrid of a sort from the 2 iconic footwears - Air Jordan XII (12) and Air Force 1 (One). The new creation, named Air Jordan Force XII, preserved much of Air Jordan XII’s appearance, with the addition of the Nike Swoosh and signature ankle strap plus traditional Nike Air sole found on Air Force 1. Like other Air Jordan XII Fusion, this edition has all the signature hybrid features. The updated colorways of Black/Varsity Red-White-Metallic Silver is currently available at NikeStore.com.
