Truth. It is a word we hear often but perhaps it is not spoken as often these days. In fact the cigarette industry and smoking is ripe of lies and contradictions. This is where truth comes in and sets the record straight with their premiere truth1585 Collection. truth will be partnering up with Staple Design and eight key retail stores across the country to launch this capsule collection. Each boutique will be stocking one of eight t-shirt designs speaking on the truth about nicotine, smoking and cigarettes in general. Keep your eyes on Reed Space, ALIFE, Goliath, BODEGA, BURN RUBBER, MAJOR, TRUE and UBIQ who will be stocking the truth1585 Collection very soon. truth also created a short video interview with each of the boutique’s founders and staff about the reasoning behind participating in this project and what smoking means to them personally.

ALIFE‘s early branding frequently employed a tagline that succinctly communicated the core of its identity, “A lifestyle like no other.” For Fall 2011, the streetwear pioneer is releasing a mass quantity of different T-shirt styles like no other. The individual designs run the gamut from the sublime to the deliberately ridiculous, and just about everything in between. There’s a nod to Andy Warhol in the Corn Flakes logo, as well as the yellow pencil graphic that bears a striking resemblance to the cover art from the Velvet Underground & Nico’s debut album. For those who like to keep it simple, there are classic styles featuring the antique “A” or script logo. There’s likely a design and color to suit almost anyone’s taste. The sizeable collection is rounded out by a sweater vest, along with a tote bag and duffle. The entire range, images of which follow the jump, is available now at all three ALIFE flagships.

ALIFE, having laid low for a stretch of time, is ready to make some noise again. The brand has unveiled its Fall 2011 footwear collection, an impressive assortment of sneakers and casual footwear built with premium materials in classic silhouettes. Standouts include crowd favorite the Everybody High, making a strong showing in textured brown leather; the NorthEastern in shiny red patent; and the Moc Low Suede, perfect weekend slip-ons featuring sporty cup sole construction. The collection is available now at all three ALIFE retail locations. Click through for images of the entire range.

The first ever collaboration between ALIFE and Warrior Footwear will be available this Saturday, August 13th, at ALIFE Rivington Club. Because of its canvas upper with no obstructive design elements and the fluidity of its labor force back in China (where the footwear is standard issue among public school students as gym shoes), the Warrior Footwear emblems are painted on by hand. Thus, no 2 pairs are alike. Finished with specially marked A.R.C. tabs, each pair sits on vulcanized outsole and packaged in customized A.R.C. shoe box. In addition to ALIFE Rivington Club, the collaborative sneaker will also be available at WarriorFootwear.com and ALIFE’s official online store, TheUpset.com

For those of us who complained bitterly about the past winter season, summer 2011 is proven just the opposite with intense heat bearing down much of Northern Hemisphere. Like “scorched earth military campaign”, there is no relieve in sight, even beneath shades and shadows, that all leather kicks you brought earlier is beginning to lose its luster. Fortunately, there are alternatives in forms of ALIFE Footwear for Summer 2011. In canvas, fabric, or thinly applied suede, all 9 styles fit into different settings with ease. And when comfort level is at such a premium, ALIFE’s natural cork footbeds (in some of the models) are the ideal, as well as economical, solution. The ALIFE Summer 2011 Footwear Collection is available now at all ALIFE flagship stores.

The folks at the ever-collaborating NY institution, ALIFE joined forces with artist Craig Costello aka KRINK for an exhibition called Spray Paint the Walls. With walls bathed in the trademark KRINK vertical ink lines in varying shades of blue and yellow, the party goers were treated to a set by Nina Sky & Erin Magee (MadeMe). Other guests included, of course the ALIFE crew, including Arthur Soleimanpour and JEST, Costello himself, Dee & Ricky, and musicians like Le Tigre and Nick Zinner. The Casio G-Shock and KRINK watch, the DW6900KR-w was on display as well. This exhibition will be on display beginning April 9th from 12 pm to 6 pm at 18 Wooster Street.

Our attention this week is still very much on the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that struck northern Japan last week, as the country now faces nuclear radiation, food shortages, and mourns the casualties. Fittingly, a number of stories this week centered on our involvement, along with Stussy, fragment design, and ZOZOTOWN, in relief efforts. And while all other news pales in comparison, we did have a lot to cover, including: two new shoes from Supreme x Vans, which true to form were quick to disappear. Also, new shoes and new apparel for Spring 2011 from ALIFE – including interesting new footwear models. Hiroki Nakamura has also been busy: we covered the release event for the Visvim women’s line at On Pedder, and the trunk show in L.A.. A more “pop” fashion story this week was the behind-the-scenes look (courtesy of Cobrasnake) at Jeremy Scott and Katy Perry, as the two worked on the new Adidas Is All In campaign. Nike showed that it’s keeping an eye on trends by announcing round two in the collaboration with Liberty – the pedigreed British fabric maker that is having something of a moment right now. And a pretty big surprise came when a new Reese Forbes shoe was released this week – not made by Nike. G-Shock announced a collaboration this week with artist KRINK – for which we have images and a video. Finally, a musical bonus from Kanye West, featuring some fellow current reigning champs of mainstream hip hip. Check out the details of all of this week’s news after the jump.

Following up on the Spring 2011 apparel collection release, ALIFE has also released the Spring 2011 footwear collection, which includes a number of old favorites, along with some new styles. The familiar Everybody is back for Spring, in both Mid and Hi versions, done in parachute cloth or a canvas/suede mix. Also making an appearance is the Wood Stock, which we recently covered in an ALIFE x And A collaboration. The newer styles are interesting, especially the deconstructed Moc with a cork insole, and the simplistic Chuck. Also notable is the sneaker/wingtip mashup, the Cadet colorway of the Northeastern. The new collection will be available at the Alife New York and Alife Vancouver flagships March 19th, and at Alife Tokyo April 2nd, with online sales starting April 14th. Check out the full collection after the jump, in the quirky lookbook style that we’ve come to expect from ALIFE.

With friends like Joe Garvey, Mac Huelster, Doug Reddish, Matt Terwilliger, and Rennobuko Ku’uleialoha Chang, who needs outsource for models? Introducing the new ALIFE Sportswear Collection for Spring 2011, a boisterous line of colors with a panache of street smarts. With help from their Lower East Side compatriots, the silhouettes are more streamlined than previous collection, but only on appearance. There is still enough space for you to do a Backside Air on your skate deck with ripping a new “access panel” on your pants or shirt. The new ALIFE Sportswear Collection for Spring 2011 will be available tomorrow, March 19th, at its New York and Vancouver flagships, followed by Tokyo release on April 2nd and online availability April 14th.
Release Dates:
March 19th (Tomorrow!) – NY & Vancouver
April 2nd (Saturday) – Tokyo
April 14th (Thursday) – Online

Alife has teamed up with Japanese fashion, culture, and design retailer And A to release the Wood Stock, a new chukka-inspired boot with interesting styling. And A is a wide ranging firm, which deals in everything from clothing to cosmetics to books and music, but thankfully the retailer shows a pretty keen eye for footwear design. There are a few notable aspects to the design, most notably the over-thick crepe sole, molded onto the upper. The upper itself is done in a nice suede, in either sand or black; each features a contrasting heel counter done in blue full-grain leather (which matches the lining, also in blue leather). Further detailing includes a line of leather punch-outs around the toe box, evocative of a brogue. A brown squared leather lace tops things off, and tips the design balance just a bit into moccasin territory, to touch on the nearly obligatory Native trend. It’s a very interesting design from the partnership; it won’t work for everyone, but the creativity is certainly appreciated. the AA Wood Stock is available for pre-order from the And A Zozo store, with a release set for mid-April. Check out shots of both colors after the jump.

Even excluding international affairs, there was definitely no shortage of news this week. The attentions of the sports world and beyond has been focused on All Star Weekend for weeks; the event has finally arrived, bringing with it a deluge of product tie-ins, major ad campaigns, and celebrity events. Nike was obviously a major player, releasing not only All Star themed shoes, but a high-budget film short featuring Kobe Bryant (plus a peek at round 2 of one of the most hyped up shoes ever – the Air Yeezy). A more artistic tie-in was the AJ 1 as customized by Dave White, to be auctioned for charity. And basketball obviously isn’t the only focus of attention this week, which also included New York Fashion Week, a supernova of creativity, buzz, and gossip. One of the many events was hosted by VMAN, invitations to which included a cash insert, to play on the recent Kanye West issue of the magazine. Honors for the most groundbreaking show go to Moncler, however, and if you didn’t hear about it, read below. There was quite a bit of notable news from the street fashion side of things this week too; one main highlight were images of the soon-to-be-released Spring Summer 2011 collection from Supreme. Spring collection previews also came from CASH CA and adidas Originals, while Dr Romanelli released a capsule collection with A Love Movement, which is as stunning as usual. Ye wasn’t the only musician whose shoe project got attention this week; more information about the collaboration between Swizz Beats and Reebok came this week. In art news (and BAPE news), KAWS released images of a new BAPE/Milo mashup on his Facebook page. Plus, ALIFE made art news too, with a concept vending machine installation at The Hole, featuring work by some darlings of street art. Finally, Nike didn’t deserve the only advertising award this week; Porsche also deserves honorable mention for an innovative campaign which leveraged it’s social media presence (and compromised a GT3).
