APPLEBUM is paying homage to the fallen star – Ol’ Dirty Bastard – of the Wu-Tang Clan, in their latest Stars & Stripes Sweat Hoodie from their Spring/Summer 2012 collection. The whole layout of the hoodie oozes 90′s streetwear style, composed of a simple photo print on the chest of the black hoodie. Method Man is also an iconic member of the Wu-Tang Clan, dressed in all black draped over by an upside down American flag. A modern touch to the classic silhouette is the metal details on the ends of the hood drawstring, complete with the APPLEBUM etching. Head over to APPLEBUM online store to pick this item up.

It is no secret that Tokyo-based APPLEBUM take their inspiration from hip hop culture. For their Autumn/Winter 2011 lookbook they invited three influential Japanese rappers to model their latest products, resulting in a distinct collection. TwiGy al Salaam, Dabo and Chinza Dopeness represent the three generations of Japanese rappers, as each artist influenced and shaped the culture from the late 80′s, 90′s and 2000′s, respectively. APPLEBUM not only captured the photoshoot using still cameras, but they managed to document the whole session in video format as well. Check after the jump for the full video of the photo shoot.

With both brands pushing the stylistic cues of traditional American sports, basketball, baseball and football, APPLEBUM and UNDEFEATED Japan share the common concept in apparel development. On top of that these two brands are well respected in Tokyo, which results in the upcoming Tokyo 23 Project. The number 23 refers to the 23 wards of Tokyo and perhaps it indicates the basketball influence of the project as well. Details are scarce at the moment but collaboration looks to feature range of illustrations from illustrator Mami Kobayashi who have drawn numerous graphics for APPLEBUM in the past.

Commemorating the opening of A Tribe Called Stussy exhibition, Stussy Japan invited APPLEBUM to design a collaboration t-shirt. The graphic blends the roots of these two brands by incorporating skateboard and sneaker box motifs in the now famous double S logo. Rather than to go the digital route, this graphic was illustrated by hand perhaps to revert back to the days where computers did not rule the world. The pool also references to the time when skateboarders would scour the suburbs to find an empty pool to skate in. On the left chest, a phrase reads ‘The Sun Rises In The East’ which not only points to the geography of Japan but also Tokyo’s geographic location compared to the rest of the country. APPLEBUM online store currently have the t-shirts in stock.

It is not easy to pull off a collaboration project of this caliber and APPLEBUM have spent many months working on it. The New York Yankees cap is as iconic as New York and it is used as a base for this collaboration. An official MLB cap from New Era is used and the MLB logo is located on the back and inside on the sweat band for authenticity. The uniquely designed Babylon Camo from APPLEBUM is used as the body and it features the night scenery of the Tokyo skyscrapers as an abstract pattern. These are available in limited numbers and purchase can be made from the APPLEBUM online store.

Vulcanized sneakers are relatively simple and easy to make and APPLEBUM just launched their first ever sneaker model, Vascon Hi Vinyl Dot sneakers on the weekend. It features the famous Vinyl Dot pattern that is made up of small vinyls that resembles a multi colored polka dot pattern. The polyester material uppers are matched with black shoe laces, white toe cap, foxing and black outsole. On the insoles, they have printed the lyrics of “Ya Basta” at the heel which stands out in an all black interior. Currently these are available from the APPLEBUM online store and at authorized dealers.

APPLEBUM have redesigned the classic navy pea coat jacket and thrown in their own spice while they were at the drawing board. The actual silhouette of the Melton P-Coat is similar to the orthodox military style however the two tone break up is unlike any on the market which should get some nods from sneakerheads and basketball fans. For the times when dressing up is necessary, the black/red color scheme will match perfectly with your favorite kicks and on the inside of the jacket, the inner lining is printed with their famous Vinyl Dot pattern. Under collar and underside of the adjustable straps are all lined with red canvas material, injecting color onto the mature outerwear. via: ARKWAX

Nothing beats fighting cold wind than with warm jackets and vests. APPLEBUM are all prepared to keep you warm this season with several functional releases in the form of outerwear. The ever so popular Babylon Camo pattern in black version is used on their Zip Up Parka and backpack for those in need of lightweight solutions to the declining temperature. However the Black Watch Hood Jacket and Vest are much thicker and could prove to be a better choice. Rust Check Vest is another item that is printed with a custom design based on repeated rust patterns. Last but not least, the Basketball belt is made with basketball like leather with the APPLEBUM logo embossed on the back.

It is said that denim from Okayama prefecture in Japan produces the best denim, and APPLEBUM have gone to Okayama to source the best denim they can find. This Ya Busta denim jacket uses indigo colored 13 ounce denim with classic tonal stitching and brass buttons for an authentic feel. Turn the jacket over and it reveals a message from APPLEBUM that attacks mediocre fashion designers and brands. On the right rear hem of the jacket is a red leather patch that has been embossed to imitate basketball material. Adjustable straps are situated on both sides of the hem and two buttoned front pockets are located on the chest.

Tokyo and New York collides as APPLEBUM teams up with Frank151 for a custom designed New Era 59FIFTY cap. The ‘F’ Babylon View cap is a blend of the iconic designs from both brands and they fuse effortlessly. APPLEBUM created the Babylon View photo print few seasons back and they bring it back especially for this collaboration’s base fabric. On the front panels, the familiar F logo is embroidered in 3D while the under brim is embroidered as well. These caps will be available from October 30th at APPLEBUM, The House and Frank’s Chop Shop. Also a release party will be held in Shibuya, Tokyo on Friday October 29th at Fiction with an impressive line up of DJ’s and best of all it is free entry.
