A quick rebuttal via his Twitter account to clarify what GQ reported this morning, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z announced his fashion consortium Rocawear‘s purchase of Pharrell Williams‘ Billionaire Boys Club isn’t a purchase at all. Instead, its a partnership where each of the involved parties will bring their strengths to the effort. Under the agreement, Rocawear will handle the logistic aspect, from manufacturing to distribution. This will free up Williams to focus on BBC creative portion and marketing. In addition, in keeping with Billionaire Boys Club founding motto, its merchandises will only be available at select boutiques around the world still. Certainly a sweet heart deal for both men in the face of an uncertain outlook. More detailed information to come soon…

A common misgiving in relation to canvas sneakers is the bland appearance. Comfortable? Yes. Lightweight and Breathable? Yes. But any expectation on distinctive designs is quickly extinguished till this season as Billionaire Boys Club (aka BBC) made available its Nothing Canvas Sneaker in Camouflage Print. Absence of any branding with the exception of small astronaut motif on lateral sidewall of the sole and embroidered “B” on the leather heel tab, the Nothing Camouflage Canvas is the ideal for those strolls near yacht club, especially with its gum rubber outsole. Mentioned already in a brief posting yesterday evening, Pharrell Williams released an official video announcement this afternoon of his creative (and equity) stake in Karmaloop TV. The Grammy winning musician, producer, frontman of N.E.R.D. , just to named a few, this new platform allows Williams to become an emissary of sort to the growing youth culture. In his statement, Williams addressed Karmaloop TV will “once again give intelligent and creative youth culture a voice and a TV entertainment brand they can call their own, something that has been missing for a long time now. We intend to create amazing programming that really speaks to this group and is innovative, fun and groundbreaking. Progressive youth culture is hungry for different content than what is out there now – they are currently massively underserved.” Greg Selkoe, Founder of Karmaloop and CEO of the new venture added ““We’re delighted and honored that he has joined our effort to create a multi-platform brand that will once again excite cutting edge youth culture about TV, just as MTV did in the 1980s.” Heads by Katie McEnroe, former President of AMC Network, Karmaloop TV is slated to be available later this year as a cable television channel.

Another new week in March marks more new drops from Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream. A healthy dose of shirts, t-shirts, jeans and pants will be available today, however keep in mind that not all of the items will be available at all Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream stores. The damage treatments on the Billionaire Boys Club Smart Cut Vintage Wash Jeans results in an almost galaxy like finish. The complete the look, the indigo denim is embroidered with the familiar Astronaut Faces on the back pockets. In contrast, the Ice Cream Waffle Cone Embroidery Chinos are detailed with waffle cone ice cream embroideries. Shirts and t-shirts are kept basic and feature iconic graphics as focal point of the garments.

Ice Cream is a young label, and one that in a relatively short time has shown an aggressive evolutionary cycle. Under the forward thinking direction of founder Pharrell Williams, the label has evolved from relying on very loud streetwear pieces, to putting out much more mature casual apparel – while managing to artfully retain a bit of the street roots, worked in with subtlety. The Drippy sneaker, released for Spring 2011, is a perfect example: the shoe starts with a classic silhouette evoking a Jack Purcell, with a Japanese cotton upper, and incoporates a nod to Ice Cream’s streetwear heritage in the drip overlay on the outsole. Ice Cream has been carving out an larger and larger fanbase in Europe and the UK; BBC and Ice Cream, which were limited until very recently to in-store sales only, are now available for online purchase – fans can pick up the Ice Cream Drippy Sneakers now at end. Check out the detail shots after the jump.

After the initial shock wore off, people begin to ponder about NIGO’s other partnership, BBC Ice Cream, and whether it will relegate to the same fate as BAPE. Certainly the economic slow down has affect the label’s growth, but during his interview with WWD, NIGO expressed a more involved role in his partnership with Pharrell Williams as ownership of BAPE transfers to I.T Ltd. of Hong Kong. Even if the final outcome is still indefinite, fans of the label can still expect bewildering patterns and materials like the Blastivo Jacket, a sports coat from the future with it denim body and contemporary Native American print. In a bit subtle context, there is B Club B’ Jersey Training Jacket, BBC’s interpretation of the track jacket. Finally, a logo tee ironically named Perspective Logo. With all that have happened during the last few days, NIGO definitely gained a new point of view. February 2011’s 2nd delivery will take place this Thursday, February 10th at Ice Cream flagship in Harajuku, Tokyo and followed by other BBC Ice Cream retail locations.
