Having presided over the clubby Northeastern prep sensibilities of J.Press as the brand’s creative director, Mark McNairy went a little wild when he struck out on his own in 2008. While he retained an appreciation for traditional silhouettes stitched together exclusively in the UK or the USA, he also displayed a willingness to subvert preppy sartorial conventions. For his Spring 2012 collection, he plastered polka dotted smiley faces onto a pair of chino shorts and applied blinding neon-hued finishes to the soles of his classic brogues. Another prime example of the designer’s spirited sense of fun: this cotton canvas backpack adorned with a camo pattern overlaid with daisies. Featuring adjustable padded shoulder straps, zippered front pocket and large main compartment, the backpack is available in Woodland and Desert colorways. It’s in stock now at colette.

As part of its A Bathing Ape x Star Wars capsule collection, BAPE presents a wool varsity jacket that borrows elements from the classic letterman jacket as well as a hooded duffle coat, resulting in an interesting hybrid imbued with a street-ready edge courtesy of a subtle camo pattern in navy. Details include two-button throat tab, four toggle closure, two flap pockets and contrast colored sleeves with ribbed cuffs. Decorative star patches at either shoulder, plus a discreet BAPE label at the hem, round out the features. The jacket is in stock now at Parisian boutique colette.

Designer Yuki Matsuda, founder of heritage footwear brand Yuketen, has teamed up once again with expedition outfitter Canada Goose. The result of their collaboration this time around is a reworking of the Chiliwack Jacket, built with an attractive waterproof tartan wool exterior and insulated with white duck down. Additional details include coyote fur around the adjustable hood, storm flap with two-way zipper closure and hidden snap buttons, rib-knit cuffs and waistband, adjustable button tabs on the sleeves, and red Canada Goose badge at the left chest. The Yuki Matsuda x Canada Goose Chiliwack Jacket is available now through colette.

Fans of the Discovery network television series Survivorman will recall that Les Stroud, left alone to spend seven days in a remote region without food or water, would always carry him with one indispensable object: his trusty multi-tool. For the style savvy user who likely won’t be braving the jungles of Papua New Guinea, Carhartt and A.P.C. introduce a 7-centimeter stainless steel multi-tool equipped with just the essentials: bottle opener, serrated and straight knife blades and three screwdrivers (Phillips, slotted and micro-eyeglass). Part of the labels’ collaborative series, the double-branded multi-tool is available now through colette.

In the US, Caterpillar is one thing: heavy machinery. In other parts of the world, though, the CAT footwear subdivision has attained an almost Timberland-like status, being a construction-site staple that also makes a street statement. And if rugged CAT footwear hasn’t had much chic appeal stateside, a recent collaboration with British designer Martine Rose just might turn some heads. Rose has made an art (and reputation) out of taking menswear staples and giving them a touch of tech street influence – as in the pinstripe dress shirts with welt-zip chest pockets that her eponymous collection has revolved around this year. For CAT, Rose has given an otherwise brutally rugged workboot a bit of Woolrich-esque feel – with a canvas and wool upper, set off by a nylon buckle strap, these boots are a better match for the UE x Carhartt capsule, or a Rocky Mountain Featherbed vest, than for the worksite. Plus they have the Colette stamp of approval, so Paris tastemakers are sure to take note. Check out all three colors after the jump, and see Colette for purchase.

Twin accessories designers Dee and Ricky, famous for their LEGO heart pins, have joined forces with American sneaker brand PONY on two shoe models: the low-cut Top Stars and high-top Slam Dunk. The former features a white base adorned with leopard print and neon green laces, while the latter is built with a textile black upper and leopard print lining. Plastic multi-colored letters spelling out “Dee and Ricky” are affixed along the side of the shoe. Both styles are available in limited quantities through colette. Fans of Dee and Ricky in the Paris area, take note: the twins will be at colette on December 15th from 6 pm to 7 pm for a special in-store signing event.
